The Colour Of Thoughts...

A contribution from another of the many Eves

Ocean Thoughts; In Red

I went to the beach today
My daughter came with me.
She brought me a green rock
And a broken sand-dollar

Nineteen years after her birth,
She still brings her mother
Treasures found from the ocean

I sit and look at the almighty sea
Building, cresting, crashing, foaming
And I see the power in my daughter
Who still brings her mother gifts from the sea.

I sit on the warm sand
I walk in the cool waves
I watch couples strolling by
Joggers, families, solitary figures.

Always the waves
Ever present, constantly changing
Like the sea, like my daughter

Gulls, sandpipers, dogs and their humans
Children playing in the sand, chasing waves
Crying like the gulls, from a distance

Sun, fog, wind
Playing in the sea grass
Brushing past my cheek
I watch my daughter with the sea

Does she know her power
Will she find out in time
I sit patience
Waiting for my daughter
By the ocean, by the sea

This is beautiful and goes right to the heart of a mother. I have five children, four of which are daughters. I know exactly what you are saying. My girls and I are best friends now that they are grown, but so often I look at them and see the little girls they were. I hear their childish giggles and still see the innocense in their eyes. My son too, I often find that little boy looking up at him with the same silly grin. It just goes to show that no matter how old they get they are still your babies. It is just as much fun now to see them discovering life as it was when they were children and just as heartbreaking when things don't go right for them. I pray everynight that God keeps them in His loving hands. Thanks for sharing this lovely poem.

That is a beautiful poem, but you know, I think I would rather be Lilith.

I don't have a daughter, but I am one

This really reminded me of my mother and I. Loved the trip down memory lane. Mahalo, my friend.

Yeah, I'm still [blog 1hotwahine]

Thank you all who commented.

Saint, interesting comment. You know, I wasn't even thinking of the Lilith myth when I wrote it. The thoughts in the poem were very literal because they came during an actual visit to the beach with my daughter. However, I enjoy opposites too, and I've always thought it subtly humorous that while men have only one "creation story", women have two - Eve and Lilith and the representations that creates for women. Personally, I think most women have both in them, Eve & Lilith.

Have you ever read Inanna Lady of Largest Heart; Poems of a Sumerian High Priestess Enheduanna by Betty De Shong Meador? Meador translates & renders the texts written by Enheduanna, who lived in Mesopotamia around 2300 BCE. It's a fascinating glimpse into the mind of a woman who truly believes in her goddess, Inanna. Inanna reminded me of another version of Lilith when I read it. Great stuff.

Nothing like the bond between Mother and Daughter. Treasure each other and moments like you have shared on the beach.

There is a sea fulfilling it’s climax to a mighty tempest and Mother Nature is showing herself off with sheer elegance.

The warm and cold colors bring blustering realism to the set. The motion is rhythmic, to be titled “true grace.”

A woman is to the sea as birth is to dawn. The waves of her hair flow softly in the breeze. The depths within her eyes invite you to unpredictable adventures. And her lips glisten as would motionless water in the moonlight. Her voice is heard as she speaks aloud to the echoing land, true words of love. She is a quest in her own right, for man will always want to explore the riches of her smile. The life within her will never die, for love has no end. Her strength shall always be kept because her sorrow is her shadow and hides in the corners of her emotions.

You are my ocean, and I am you mariner. I see you fully but will never touch your boundaries. I have set sail to find your heart and my mind will fill with the memories of the inevitable journey. You will be my eyes, my hands, my voice, my soul. You will guide me through life as I wade your shores of love, truth, and understanding.

As birth is to dawn, woman is to the seas. For the waves of her hair flow softly in the breeze. The depths within her eyes invite adventures bright and her lips glisten as would water in the moonlight.

Her songs sing loud unto the echoing land as true words of love wash over the sand. Man shall always explore the riches of her smile. She’s a quest to all and her love has no trial.

And the elegance of her strength shall always be, for so is a woman as a stormy sea. So warm and cold with a graceful motion, I am your mariner and you are my ocean.

As I sail, my mind fills with memories, but my journey won’t touch your boundaries. As I wade your shores, my life you will guide and our love shall grow with each coming tide.
