Do you believe in angels?.......I do!

Hello again friends. Sit back, relax, and listen to another story of my childhood. This one may or may not transport you back in time to the good ol days. I know it does me.

In April of 1976, my Dad's cousin set him up on a reluctant blind date. Four months later, I got another mom and two big brothers. She was the nicest woman on the face of the world, a true earth angel. She took me into me into her arms, into her life, and treated me as if I was her own. She's the one I call Mom. When I introduce people to her, I proudly say with a smile,"This is MY mom."

My new Mom had two boys that came with her, and they made my life a living hell, or maybe "very interesting" might be better words. I'm not gonna lie and say that now I hate them, but I have absolutly no use for Guy, who is 5 years older than me. Richard, who is only 3 years older than me will always hold a place in my heart, you will find out why if you continue to read this blog. I dont remember the wedding, or the first year or so after that, so I will start with my first clear memory.

I think I was about 3, we were living in a two bedroom house just outside a very small town in south Texas called Rye. To let you know exactlly how small Rye was, I'll give you a few facts about it. I was told that when I was a small child, inside the country store (which was the only real building in town, even from when I CAN remember, was an old rack of hen-houses from a chicken coupe. These hen-houses served as mail boxes. I dont really remember that part, but I do remember that this store was everything you needed. It wasn't only the only palce to buy bread, but it was also the feed store, the bait shop, the only grill for 20 miles, and the barber shop. I still look back and laugh.

Rye did't have any stoplights, just two stopsigns, one on either side of the crossroads, and those were optional. We later got some fancy uptown big city yellow flashing lights. Right after the flashing lights were put up, the barber got him a camper and moved out of the store. Not long after, Rye got its first brick building, a real live post office. We even got our own post lady to work there. A few years later, there was a missionary came in and built the first church. Laugh if you want, I myself think its funny too. keep in mind this was in the 80's. I think there was only one, or mayby two families actually living "in town", everyone else was scattered through the woods. Lord knows we were living out there.

My first real clear memory is funny now, but it sure wasn't then. Me and my two brothers were riding or bikes (mine was a tricycle) down the road (which is red clay, with spots of white sand). I was trying to keep up, holloring for them to wait up on me. I thought they was, cause they turned around real fast and started to come back and get me,,,,i thought. Boy was I wrong! They got about half-way to me when ofer the hill behind them was a herd of deer, spooked or something running down the road after them.

I was trying to turn around on my tricycle when Richard pased me holloring and screeming, Guy came buy right behind Richard. As they passed me, Guy kicked me off of my tricycle. And guess what. Yup, you got it. I got ran over by a herd of deer. How many people can say that, and mean it. That was just the first time I remember the hell Guy gave me, but it sure isnt the last.

Well, Ill have to stop here for now. They got me unloaded here in Bloomington IN, so I need to get back on the road.
