i'm nearly dying!!!
i can't believe i haven't got any bagles for a month! A MONTH!!!!!! i need to come to NYC, and get tons of them! half dozen? or dozen? NO WAY!!! i'll get everything up from the Ruthy's at chelsea market!

jesus, i can't stand it!! how can i lead my life without lovely bagels?? but, unfortunately, there is NO real bagel here in japan, even in tokyo. i never seen the real bagel anywhere. i wish i could bake them myself, i really do. i think i have to come over Ruthy's sometimes in May. i can't resist anymore!!!!!!

Have you tried ordering online Alisha ? I'm afraid I don't know too much about them but I did see a place in the UK that exported to Japan ! (I know, you want REAL ones !) BEST OF LUCK WITH YOUR BAGEL HUNT !

Hi Alisha, I'll make you a trade. I'll ship you some NY bagels if you send me a couple dozen of those little croissants that Japanese department stores sell on the first floor. They were the greatest thing to pick up on the way to the train or coming back from a concert. The best were at the Takashimaya (did I spell that right?)or Hankyu stores.

Alisha, Sounds good to me, but it may have to wait. I expect to take a sabbatical in Spring 2008 and come to Japan for the sakura. I love to walk the Tetsugaku-no-michi in Kyoto where the blossoms are so thick (and the people too, unfortunately!) that it is like a light blanket of cotton candy from heaven. If you're still around, we could meet up.
