Another Dateless Weekend

Here it comes. Another dateless weekend.

Actually, I'm getting used to this. Better to have no date than a bad date.

Finding lots of things to do with free time. Write. Watch tv shows. Blog. Read. Hang out with the cowboys. Get more bad advice on how to meet women.

The cowboys are fun. I like their philosophy. "Always treat your wife like she's your bride".

Got to talking about ways to meet women the other day.

"You got to do something you're interested in, where there's wimmin doin the same thing. Gives you a startin point for having sumthin in common, unless she's doin what you're doin better 'n you."

Well..I don't have a problem with a woman being better at anything than I am. I'd actually appreciate a lady who was more proficient with a chain saw than I am.

OK...so what is it I like to do where there's "wimmin" doing the same thing?

OK...watching CSI. Reading. Writing....all pretty solitary ventures.

Hanging out with the cowboys...we meet in the morning at a little cafe and trade tall tales, wisdom, and what passes for gossip among cowboys ("ya know, Bud got throwd from his horse yesterday and the horse laughed.") Never have had a lady sidle up and join the "Liars Hour".

OK...what do I like to do that I'm not doing right now where there might be some "wimmin" around?

Hmmm..hunting along roadsides and junkyards for neat junk to make into "found art" sculptures...Nope..never encountered a woman scrounging a roadside or a junkyard.

There's the basic problem. Got to get involved in something with bunches of other people.

Any suggestions for someone who doesn't drink much, isn't into competitive sports, doesn't like games (too many of those at work), but who really likes conversation.

Bookstores? Seriously, I've been hit on a couple times. I was just walking out the store once, and a guy stopped me, "Are you a writer?" and ended up talking to me for 15 minutes. Though maybe he wasn't hitting on me, as he didn't give or ask my number. Or, like me, he was brave but only *so* brave. lol.

BTW: NaNoWriMo. Fun event Crazy ppl. Writer types, all. At least once a year.

On the bright side: "Doesn't drink much" probably has a bit more luck than "Doesn't drink at all".

Tell mo more about NaNoWriMo.

An interesting thing...getting "hit" on.

Actually happens to me but not really fun. Like dealing with fans and groupies...vampires really...just wanting to suck your identity.

type the www "dot" nanowrimo "dot" org. and check out the "faq's" section. it's amusing

but basically: started in california (all cool fun stuff seems to do so. well... SCA. NaNoWriMo. Me.) Worldwide now. I actually joined in with a Tunisia writing group last year... just in case I wanted or needed any assistance, as that was the closest I could find to Egypt. And was thinking to have my novel end up there.

You are not allowed to start writing until 12:00:01am on Nov. 1st. and then you write 50,000 words by 11:59:59pm Nov. 31st. If you hit the mark: you get a "certificate" (my local group actually made real "certificates" to hand out to "winners"). It doesn't have to be perfect. Editing is for another month. The goal is quantity over quality... mainly started for those who always wanted to write but never got around to it. But anybody can join in. And some have even had their works published.

You can write on your own. Or there are often local groups that meet up. Last year, I helped organize an all-night write-a-thon at a local hotel. it was crazy 6 ppl... laptops... munchies. Started 10pm, finished 6am. Amusing how characters can take on a life of their own. in the middle of that night... suddenly one participant cried out, "no!! nonononono!!!" and got really upset. Because one of her favorite characters suddenly died. I hear that happens a lot. Unfortunately... I was too busy trying to control everything... none of my characters did that. But maybe next year
