Age range of relationship potential

Well...the day finally arrived, and even my age on my profile pic has changed. Official recognition as it were.

Funny how acceptable age ranges for relationships changes over time.

I remember being a sophomore in high school and dating a senior. She took a lot of shit for that…two years difference...then she went to college and god forbid a college girl would date a high school kid.

In mid life...40...10 years wasn’t a problem.

But at 60...the range is closing again. If she’s 40 and I’m 10 years she’s 50 and I’m 70... seems like 5 years is more comfortable.

Now, in the context of a short term purely physical relationship… so far I think the oldest woman I was involved with was 20 years my senior (I was 30 at the time)...but I can’t see myself getting too hot over an 80 year old lady right now.

On the younger side, the max has been 5 years…when I was 35. Other than that the range has been 2 years since I was a senior in high school.

Now, if the opportunity presented itself to get it on with a twenty-something or 30 something of even a 40 something or a 50 something year old woman…absolutely!!!!! Though the younger the more frightening it would probably be...the older one gets the more battle scarred from life one is.

What’s your age range of relationship experience?

What’s your age range of relationship potential?

The oldest man I have been with has been 10 years older than myself, that happened twice. The youngest has been only one year younger than myself.

The age range of relationship potential? That's a hard one. If I go up 10 years, that makes him 70, and even at almost 60, I don't want to be with someone in their 70's. I'll consider that when I'm 70. The youngest? I would consider being with someone 10 years younger. It would depend on the individual, I suppose. The age range I put in profiles is 53-63.

I'm hooking up with a 28 year old right now but nothing that will last, must admit enjoy the young ones for just that. Not that I wouldn't hook up with someone older if He was the type of man that got me going at any age I'm up for that. Never see myself wanting to settle but in 20 years if the Right one came along I'd shack up with them and be content. For now as I always have I'm enjoying my freedom....Older Woman and Younger Men if for no other reason Woman generally out Live the Men be side its a state of mind, So Stay Young from with in and the right one will find you...Ready

Yep. And I'm rebuilding the shack right now. People see the house and go "you're not going to live in that" Yep. A 100 year old adobe that will be neat when it's done. Perfect place to "shack up".

i turned 56 in may, and this site was right on top of the change, too! i think they must have changed my age at 12:01 am! the age range i usually post is 52-61, but in reality age is just a number. i don't think, however, that i'd have much in common with a 35 y/o man, or am i interested in someone in his 70s.
if i was curious about a man's age, i'd usually ask if he was born before or after "kennedy was assasinated." that got scary when younger men answered that they didn't know teddy kennedy had been killed!
anywaay, in most cases, age is just a number . . . good for me to remember, about men and about myself. otherwise, i'd keep asking myself "how can i be 56 now? when did it happen, and where was i during all that time?" when i was younger, i sure thought my parents were OLD in their 50s, and maybe they were - the times they are a'changing!

puntachueca replies on 7/1/2006 9:01 am:
It is mental age that counts. I'm in my 40s. And the body has hung in, too. My family genetically don't get really old...they just go cranking along and die in the field working.

OK...question though...when I was a kid they had this PA system in all the rooms, and when "disipline" was being meted out, they'd broadcast the paddling to everyone in the school...I got to be known as "Huey gets 3 whacks".

Happy Birthday. Hope you have a great day.

I have been with someone 15 years my senior and someone 2 years my junior. The age had nothing to do with it. It was how we connected.

Shaye sent me over...Happy Birthday, hope it's a great one. I know what you mean about the age difference, I went out a few times with a guy last yr I met here on AdultFriendFinder he was 35 and I was 48, he was nice, sweet and I liked him a lot but I just kept thinking in the back of my mind that I was 13 when he was born and I was old enough to have been his babysitter. lol Hugs, Jazz

When I was younger my beaus were older, and now they are younger. The oldest was a man in his 40's when I was in my 20's (fine, but he was too immature for me , the youngest was about 15 yrs. younger, which worked out splendidly. Happy Birthday, and you're as old as you think you are!

I'm here by way of Shaye to give ya some spankings. Would you prefer a paddle or will the palm of my hand do?
and a wish for many, many more.

I've been with a man 30 years my senior, when I was 21. I don't see me with a 71 year old now though. The youngest was my child's father when I was 32 and he was 24. Now, I try to stick within 10 years either way, but recently began talking with an almost 58 year old gentleman who really turns my crank and we'll be meeting this week. Wish me luck!

puntachueca replies on 7/1/2006 7:59 pm:
Mucho good luck. The 58-62 range is an interesting place...we have all the experience in the world...but most of us are still mentally 39....

The oldest man I was ever with was my ex-husband, he was/is almost 14 yrs older than me.

The youngest I have ever been with was my FIRST love, he was a yr younger than me. That was WAY back when I was 16 yrs old.

I usually try to stay within a 10 yrs older/5 yrs younger, range.

my first serious "real" relationship (3 yrs, first physical experiences, his daughter is my "adopted" daughter)... was 17 yrs older than i was. mom didn't like him cuz he was 1 year younger than her.

amusingly enough though... she's now dating a 31 yr old (same age as me). and my dad is dating a 24 yr old. my grandma was married to a man 16 yrs older than her. seems to run in the family. also... mom's b/f made her finally realize age isn't such a big deal... she actually came to me after she started seeing him and apologized for many things. like being mad at me for going to egypt, and for dating my ex. talk about a shocker.

i prefer guys older than i am. though i've had younger guys interested in me too. it has much more to do with mental age than physical.

puntachueca replies on 7/2/2006 3:53 am:
Cool. It is always good to resolve "issues" with one's parents if possible. Amazing how the older they get the smarter we look to them.

My mental age range is 10 yrs older/younger. But truth be told I am not sure i'd go 10 yrs younger unless the guy was very special...too much energy!!! I also have issues with myself and if some totally mature, head on straight, wonderful man of 6 or 7 years, or more, younger than me wanted to go out with first thought would be, Dang too bad for him he must have lost a dozzie of a bet...

puntachueca replies on 7/2/2006 4:48 pm:
Hmmmm...after reading your profile (I actually do this)....I suspect chronolgical age has nothing to do with what works for you. If it feels right it's right. Right?

I have another thought having to do with this shared experience thread. Or perhaps I should call it general knowledge. In my case I am only attracted to very, very smart men. That's the real draw, not age or the lack of it. And this is also my appeal to them. (Although I'm not screaming ugly or anything..) Anyway, these men read, and it's also a pretty good bet that they have a certain amount of formal education, so although they may not have been around for the Battle of 1812, they are aware that it occurred...

The syndrome you're describing is stupidity, and that isn't age-related!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I think age is really only relative in how you feel. Now, I will admit that when I was younger the thought of being with a much older man wasn't that appealing to me......and now that I'm is hard to imagine being with a man young enough to be my own son. But I have seen relationships work in that realm. I always say you are only as old as you feel! And you don't seem very old to me!
