A house information box

I think every house should have a box somewhere in it filled with information about the house.

Who built it.
When it was built.
The names of everyone who lived in the house.
Where the water lines and sewer lines are located.
The building plans for the house.
Whether anyone ever died in the house.
Is the house haunted?

And each person who lives in the house adds their information to the house box.

I just spent the last 3 days digging up the property trying to find where the water line connects. Finally found it. Maybe by Friday I'll actually have running water.

Found a box of papers from the former owner. Interesting stuff.

Going to make a house box for the place.

Have you ever wondered about this kind of stuff about where you live?
The photo is of a water tower on the property.

A house box sounds like a wonderful idea, and it sure could save someone a lot of hassle.

It sure would. Time to start a new tradition.

i'd also want to know what animals ever lived in the house/on the property, names, species, quirks, what people they owned, etc - more insight into the place, i think
and stay cool, friend - rain is promised for today (promises, promises, i know)

That part I could figure out since the lady who lived there wasn't into cleaning...for decades...animal crap everywhere. Took a month before the place began to smell normal. Something was living up in the ceiling. Something fairly large.

I see a cloud to the south.

I would love to know everything about my house. It sounds a fantastic idea but do you think you could get everyone down the line to keep it going. One lazy person would ruin the whole thing.

Bye everyone, it was a blast

I think this could be a great marketing ploy...sell people the box with a notebook and a list of things to put in it...then down the road...does the house have a house box or not...kind of like the service records one can get on cars....

Sounds like a cool idea...But I have found like it or not, I some how pick up on the vibes of any where I'm living....Cave Creek had a lot of Ghosts and Lost Souls around...Won't ever speak of the Hohokom ruins but that they were the Happiest people I ever picked up on...Ready

the place I'm renovating is on top of a Hohokam ruin. I hear you.

you need to include crayons so the kids in the family can add their own touch to the house box, too! way cool idea - if i ever move out of here (unlikely, i've been in this place 17+ years) i'll leave one for the next people lucky enough to live here
try to take this one global, something nice and cheerful and fun for a change!

I would really rather not know about the ghosts.

My grandfather use as metal detector to trace old pipes on his properties. Would that have saved you 3 days?

puntachueca replies on 7/25/2006 11:44 pm:
the ghosts find you anyway I've discovered.

the pipe was plastic. even had a water witch try to find the line...missed it too.

i'm going to borrow a metal detector because the site is full of relics...been inhabited for like 1000 years...already found lots of stone tools from ancient Indian days.

when property changes hands here, it comes with the building plans of the place ... city council supplies them and that makes a lot of sense to me. the only way i know about previous occupants tho is the endless junk mail that arrives in their names!

Great service!! Here they throw the plans away after a couple of years.
My house as built when this area was a territory and basically didn't even have a government.

So you get junk mail too?

I thought that was only a US affliction.
