What Happens In Vegas....Stays In Vegas

Today is our Wedding Anniversary. I remember it with such happiness. But it didn't start that way....

We had planned to get married in Las Vegas after watching "Ocean's Eleven." We took a very small gathering of our family and friends to tie the knot in the "City of Sin." The night before our flight, neither one of us could sleep. We both had terrible head colds. We left for the airport at around 4 am for our flight to Vegas.

The flight was, "The Flight from Hell." Aside from the extremely long flight, my soon to be husband had his knee crushed by one of those airline beverage carts. Not to mention, that 5 minutes prior to take off, my maid of honor elected, via a note from the flight attendant, to take a later flight with her boyfriend.

Once in Vegas, we retrieved our luggage, picked up the rental van and headed to the wedding chapel. We had to check on our arrangements for the following days ceremony. Then we went to the courthouse for our marriage license. It was the only time in my life, that I have seen longer lines than at Disney World.

Once that was done, we made our way to the Stratosphere. We met our friends and checked in. Once we were in our gorgeous suite...I called to have my wedding dress pressed by house keeping. That is when it started...the dreaded "COLD FEET." Mr. Prag started doing what I call his "dick routine." He said something to and about my son and I threw and glass ashtray at him.( I missed) It was at this very moment...for just that one split second... that I came so very close to ripping up that marriage license.

After we collected ourselves, we headed out for dinner. The "last supper"... so to speak. My maid of honor, via phone informs me that she will NOT be joining us for dinner. She has made plans to have dinner with her boyfriend instead.

After dinner, we walked the strip. This is when Mr. Prag began his "dead man walking routine." He quickly walked almost a full block ahead of our friends and me. (I wasn't feeling the love) We made it to the Bellagio to see the fountains and to take pictures.

That night, Mr. Prag went to sleep without even kissing me good night.

The next morning I awoke at 5 am and quickly dressed. I had to obtain coffee from downstairs. Once downstairs...I started with the "COLD FEET." Remembering all of my failed relationships. All of the hurt and heart break. While I was pouring my coffee at one of the coffee bars, I began to hear Sade singing on one of those huge screen televisions from the club/bar behind me. The song... "Somebody Already Broke My Heart." Just then, some guy introduces himself and said he was visiting from Canada. I replied, with heavy tears running from my eyes... "I'm getting married today!" I went running to one of the many casino phones and called my Mother at home. (She was unable to attend, due to a health issue) "MOMMY!!!" I cried into the phone. "Tell me...please tell me...am I making a big mistake!? What do you think? Mr. Prag is acting funny and I am scared. What if he changes!? What if I change!? Maybe this is all just too soon! Am I doing the right thing!? He didn't even kiss me good night last night!!!! And my girlfriend hasn't even been around for me to talk to!" My sweet dear Mother, talked me off the ledge and was able to put me at ease.

I returned to our suite with coffee for all and Mr. Prag was now stirring. He woke and was once again the man I fell in love with. No more cold feet, no more silence, no more grumpy attitude. He kissed and hugged me good morning. He had emotionally and mentally returned from where ever he had gone.

That day we married in a small chapel. Mr. Prag even arranged to have my favorite sterling roses in my bridal bouquet. Surrounded by a few people who meant the world to us, we pledged our love to one another. My best friend gave me away. My son was the best man. My maid of honor managed to just about make it to the wedding...let's just say...It wasn't long after that, that I severed that so-called friendship. After the ceremony we all drank champagne in our suite and had our wedding dinner at the "Top of The World" restaurant. It is a rotating restaurant at the top of the Stratosphere. It turned into a truly magical day.

They say, "What happens in Vegas...Stays in Vegas"... but this is one time that it didn't. I will be forever grateful that I have such a wonderful, friend, lover and husband.

Happy Anniversary!!

One of my best friends was married in Vegas a few years ago. My experience was far less traumatic than yours, but then again, I wasn't the one getting married. In my book, any vaca that I return from single is a good vaca!!!

Ah, Its you again, Your Angel Feathers and your Blood Stains...
