Early Father's Day Wish

I don't have a relationship with my Father. For many reasons, that I will not go into. However, I want to wish all the other men out there a Happy Father's Day. It takes a very special man to be able to do the following. Don't wait...do it.

* Frequently say, "I love you." to your child.

* Involve yourself and take an interest in your child's world.

* Share your vulnerabilities.

* Talk to your child. Not at him/her and listen to what they have to say.

* Treat him/her as you want to be treated. Respect isn't automatic...it has to be earned.

Happy Father's Day Weekend!!!!

Very well put Prags

I dont have a relationship with my dad either, he was never around when I was growing up and didnt meet my son till he was 6. I never hear from him unless I contact him first!

I am with you in wishing all dads out there a Happy Fathers Day!

I don't have any kids of my own (fill in punchline here). I do rent two, however... Being a stepdad is often a struggle, especially when you're not really (legally) the stepdad.

I do my best to be there for them... I have one of them working for me in my office... but it's not the same... and I find myself making some of the same mistakes that my parents made... they seem so natural.

Thanks for the post...

We are a blended family too. While it is never easy raising and being a Step Dad to someone else's children, it is possible to build your own special relationship and break the cycle of ones own parenting...I'm living proof!! I give you so much credit for being honest. {=}

I always tell my kids I love them... even when I feel like straggling them

Thank You for Your Time and Attention

Very well said. I did not have a good relationship with my father, but he died 23 years ago. I don't have a relationship with my mother for many reasons just like you.
Every word you say is true...it distinguishes the good dads from the bad ones.
Thank you.

RT ~ What I said applies to Mother's or Dad's. From the sound of it..you are a great Mother. We learn from others mistakes as well as our own.
