Back-To-School...Lunch Boxes

During the past week, I have been working on my son's back-to-school list. As parents, we all have these lists...

The Clothing

3 Pairs of jeans...4 shirts...1 pair of sneakers...and 1 jacket.

The "Required" School Supplies

Book Covers...Ruler..5 Subject Binder...
Pencil Pouch...Notebook Paper...Folders...
No. 2 Pencils...1 Subject Notebooks...
Erasers...Colored Pencils...2 inch Binder... Composition Book...Calculator... and Backpack..

While we spent our time mixing, matching, selecting, comparing, shopping and thing came back to my memory from my youth.

Lunch Boxes.

Something, that is now a thing of the past. Gone are the small metal handled boxes, with a picture matching Thermos. They have been replaced by hot lunches and/or insulated nylon velcro bags.

My first and favorite lunch box was the "Road Runner", seen in the attached picture. However, once the Thermos broke, which they aways did, a new lunch box had to be bought. My others were "Sigmund & Sea-monsters" lunch box, a "Scooby-Doo" lunch box and a "Barbie" lunch box.

As a child, I recall us all showing off and comparing our new lunch boxes...Who had what and what was considered "in" for that period of time. Good times and fond memories.

My children have never had those types of lunch boxes and it is a real shame. They have missed out on a very nostalgic and innocent time. They have brown bagged it or have opted for the hot lunch way of life.

Just for kicks, I checked out the prices for these old lunch boxes. I was amazed to find that today, these lunch boxes are worth between the price range of $70.00 to $100.00 each. I was unable to find the price for the "Barbie" lunch box. I can only imagine the value of it today.

For those of you can still purchase a case of brown paper lunch bags(1200 Per Case) for the low cost of $29.24. Somehow, I just don't think that those will every increase in value through the years.

Like u, i also remeber the little lunch boxes with the matching thermos. I remeber my first one was a Strawberry Shortcake and at that time it was probably one of my prized possessions(yeah ok i know that sounds strange, but i was little lol). My daughter has a little lunch box now that has Sponge Bob on it, but it is not the same; not the same qaulity and doesn't have the thermos...but she loves it which is all that matters.

I remember mine when I was a kid, it was something like the Zoo Patrol, when we cleaned out my grandparents house a few years ago, she still had the thermos!

I'll have a cafe, mocha, vodka, valium latte to go please!

Good girls go to heaven.....bad girls go down!!

You can still buy those old lunch boxes. When I worked at a movie store I had bought a metal lunch box with spiderman on it. It even had a thermos inside. I bought it for my some-day son. My ex and I were very happy at the time and trying to have kids. Well.. about a year after the divorce I gave it to a friend's kid who loved spiderman.. he didn't even care.. It's probably trashed and full of toys or something now..

I wasn't allowed to have lunch during school - unless it was something I could catch along the way!

Ah, Its you again, Your Angel Feathers and your Blood Stains...
