Valentine

Much ado is made for Valentine's Day. I usually find myself dreading it, can't wait for it to be over. Why? Because if I actually do receive a gift, it's not what I want. It isn't the show of flowers and candy, it isn't the romantic setting that I expect. It's simply the Heart that I want to feel. Traditional expectations don't carry the weight with me; it's never measured up to one soul blending with another. I am a fool for love. I'm a fool because I believe that love is more important than anything else in this world. God is Love. And as long as we love, then the world is a better place. Without love, nothing else matters.

I couldn't agree with this post more. I'd like to say something intelligent, but no... you've got it covered.

I also have always hated the forced feeling of Valentines day... for those I love every day should be valentines day... I don't need halmark to remind me... and if I do... well then the true love is gone.

Hey Lover,

I have an idea for Valentines Day. I will chat with you later about that. I agree with you...the gifts are just small gestures of love which I think are important, but the gifts mean nothing without love. Airn't you glad I love you? Smiles!

Your Real Lover

Pink, I agree with you about love.
BUT, I have to disagree with you about Valentine's Day.
In this age of fears of sexual harassment and the blurring line of the roles between the sexes, Valentine's day is one of the few times of the year left where a guy can tell the ladies (and even the guys)he appreciates them or cares for them without any other connotations or innuendos, just an innocent and wonderful opportunity to say "I love you"...
It's wonderful how you can light up someones day with a kiddies bugs bunny card (remember elementary school? LO and a Hersheys Kiss...
It's a day to legally spread love, don't lose it just because commercialism has taken hold of it. If it's from your heart, the people will know...
Valentines Day, most people don't have the courage to say it any other day, and if they miss this opportunity, it's can be another cold and lonely year for them...
Spread Love...

I think that the sentiment that you feel is best summed up by a phrase from Nat King Cole's song Nature Boy (remade by George Benson also). The song is about a person who has traveled the world, and dined with Kings, etc. But when talking about what he has found out in all his searches he says this "The greatest thing, you'll ever learn, is just to love,... and be loved in return"

I'm a sap for the old ballads, Nat King Cole, Tony Bennett, etc.

plano - I don't believe I've looked at it from that light before, thank you for broadening my horizons!

qussax - I'm quite familiar with that verse, it's one of my favorites!
