Tour update

Many Tour hopefulls dreams were crushed today during the first time trial. Meanwhile, Floyd Landis, my pick to win, finnished second, and is looking good overall.

American Levi Leipheimer had his hopes for a win in the Tour de France evaporate as he finished over 6 minutes down in today's stage. After finishing 6th last year and having a terrific season so far, many considered him one of the favorites this year. He is now out of contention barring some sort of miracle.

Another American, George Hincapie, had his hopes dashed aswell after finishing 2 minutes 42 seconds down to eventual stage winner Serguei Gonchar. Landis finnished second, 1 minute down. Landis however, is in a great position as Gonchar can't hang with the leaders in the mountains and poses no threat to the contenders.

The standings for the actual GC contenders is as follows:

Floyd Landis 1.00
Michael Rogers 1.23
Andreas Kloden 1.43
Denis Menchov 1.43
Cadel Evans 1.49
Christophe Moreau 2.03
Paolo Savoldelli 2.12
George Hincapie 2.42

The times listed are the riders time behind race leader Serguei Gonchar. But like I said, Gonchar isn't a real threat to win. A rider like George Hincapie is going to have a hard time trying to make up 1.42 on Landis; he just isn't a good enough climber.
