Don't stop me now!

I know that I shouldn't do it, but I really cannot help myself. Each and every time I set myself before the computer and that magic url in my favourites draws me in.

I'm a collector. I collect items concerned with the area I have chosen to live in. Initially there was precious little competition; no one interested themselves for a small town in the middle of nowhere. Then a couple of other people caught on to things here; the bug bit as they say. So, the price rises a little bit, and the risk that I'm not going to get one or other piece for my collection which I certainly wouldn't be able to get elsewhere.

Today was a good day though. I had five auctions (of course we're talking about eBay here, what else?) for items that mainly are unique; handwritten records and receipts which will never appear elsewhere. No competition this time. Is it Easter, or was the initial price too high? It makes no difference; the items come into my collection and the money goes out of the bank. There's more where that came from!

But why did I get hit by this collecting bug? I don't know. Well, I guess I do know the start of it all, but not why it hit me so bad. The start was a few years ago when I asked a person living in this town (fourth generation in the same street) what the significiance of a memorial in the local park (at the end of their street) was. They didn't even know that the memorial stone existed! I, as a newcomer to the town, knew more than they did.

Now I have a couple of thousand items in my collection: postcards, letters, books, photographs, a house and other bulkier things from medals through to furniture. Good that the house is so big! But collecting is here to stay, there's no going back now, not until I've got everything!
