At last...BATTLE...

Well...This week I started training again...I took some advice from
and decided to change my routine around and start off with basics...Push ups, situps, dips, and squats with just my body weight...I cant do pull ups....which is sad...I used to be able to back in highschool when I was more solid and not so FAT...sigh..oh well..I havent done dips in the along time..I used to with a plate around my neck but now Im so god damn fat I have to work just to move my fat ass let alone with a plate on me. Push ups and Situps are easy though....My knee is doing great...I've gotten up to walking 2 miles again every other day..I try to stay away from too steep a hills though it puts too much strain on my knee still...

Now as far as my diet....sigh...I have been so fucking terrible I cant even tell you...I had fast food about 4 times this month so far....which is WAY TOO FUCKING MUCH...plus Italian twice but it was done more out of conveinence than actually wanting to go to those places. To paraphrase Bill Clinton. (I chewed but I did not swallow )...there was no subway near by Other than that Ive been doing ok on my diet...Im eating alot less since I stopped working out to keep my weight the same as best I could..I still gained but only about 10 pounds in 3 months...which is ALOT less than I guessed...since I put on weight by simply SEEING food....DAMN MY EYES! Even right now Im eating ...oatmeal though...Dont think I can finish it...so full.....anyway there is an update on my injury. I know I havent been posting much...most of my down time has been dedicated to gaming...Resident Evil Outbreak SUCKAZ IM haveing trouble with the last level...sigh...Its shamful to admit but yes I even consulted a walkthrough....and it didnt make a damn bit of difference ..sigh...speaking of which...do you hear that...my ps2 is saying play me play me yea thats right...Im a dork!

(psssssst... Don't tell Div about the fast food. It seems to send him into fits.)

I'm glad your knee is doing better. I share your frustration at the moment. I really do miss walking and I'm really feeling not being able to do even that.

I'm glad you're getting back in to it.

Keep going with the excercises using your own bodyweight until you have good stamina.

Give me an idea of what kind of muscular endurance you have.

How many sets/reps of pushups, situps, dips can you do?

How much rest in-between sets?

As far as your knee, you should start building up strength in it by doing the treadmill at an incline, slowly until you build tolerance.

The goal should be to get down to a reasonable BF% before you go back to lifting heavy weight again.

Build up the muscle around your joints so they can support the kind of weight you aspire to.

As badly as it pains me to admit this, the fast food would be the lesser of the two evils over the Italian.

With your genetics, you will gain fat easier from the carb heavy pasta than you will the saturated fat and protein heavy fast food.

Neither are ideal, but at least you are getting more protein from the fast food.

Saturated fat takes awhile to digest in the stomach and thus the glycogen is released slowly back to the body lessening the chance of stored fat.

Simple carbs like refined white flour (pasta) are digested too quickly to the point where you can't possibly burn off the processed energy to compensate thus resulting in fat gain.

spunky - thx and I know what you mean

ohbaby - Runescape...I have not played that yet...I hear its pretty good.

missann - Well in a way I can see why Div gets mad about fast food...seriously fast food is worse for you than cigarettes. But like cigarettes its hard to quit

moonlight - yes I inthrall my readers muhahhaa

Div - Well lets see...

Squats 10 reps
5-10sec rest basically enough time to switch positions
situps/crunches 10 reps
5-10 sec rest
pushups 10 reps
5-10 sec rest
dips 10 reps
Ill chage the order every week or so...simply because it gets boring

I do 3 sets for a total of 30 reps per exercise which is low but Im still starting out all over again. After that I walk about two miles (Ive worked up to that over the past 2 weeks). Granted its not all up hill but its a mixture. Some parts are level and some hills I end up going up and down hills for most of the time. I do this roughly 5-6 times a week. Sometimes Ill skip a day if Im just not feeling up to it or not focused enoughbut I try to get in 6 days a week. My knee has gotten pretty strong over the past couple weeks...Its still not ready for serious weight though but its getting there. I forunately I dont have a treadmill...or a gym membership...all my weights and equipment I dont have any cardio equipment Im looking for something but thats kind of on the back burner for I need to save up for a new comp...

Now as far as my diet I was eating protien bars...the atkins ones (not because Im on atkins but because that brand was the only one that didnt taste bad) But they arent cheap...and I drink a protien shake typically before bed and I use fat free milk with it instead of water. I have eaten alot less of the fast foods...not as often and not as much when I do and I only do so out of convience more than anything else. As far as Italian well as you know thats my vice but I think I will start makeing my own when I have time. I eat more salad typically with some hardboiled eggs or chicken strips trying to get protien in every meal with fat free salad dressing. Salad is pretty much the only green I eat often...and I drink water and diet green tea no sugar sometimes the occasional soda but I have cut down on that alot too. As far as my BF% I dont have calipers but I would guess pretty high in the high 30's at least Id say...which is WAY TO MUCH...

Now on pull ups...conceivably I could use a lat tower to work the same joints/muscles right? I was thinking I could put say half my body weight on there and go to town...or even a bit less than half so that I could work the back and such at least until I could do pulls ups with my own body weight just an idea I had.

nightstalker,

I'd recommend changing the structure of your workout to where you are doing fixed sets of each exercise finishing one exercise before moving on to the next.

EX: 4 sets of pushups. pyramid starting with 30 or 40 rep for the first set, then drop down to 20 or 30 for the next set and so on until you are burned out.

Same for situps, squats and pullups.

Do a set amount of sets of one exercise until the muscle group is burned out.

You don't have to do all of them in the same workout.

Perhaps do it like this.

Mon = Pushups/ Crunches
Wed = Squats
Fri = Pullups/ Reverse Crunches

Remember, the point is to exhaust the body part until the muscle is quivering. You will see progress this way.

As far as the knee, the point is to go as fast as possible while keeping a fluid motion in your stride so there is less strain put on the knee. Just like a runner does during a marathon, fluid motion.

You should be taking in at least 30-40G of Whey Protein in whatever form you choose.

I don't think the Atkin's bars have that.

I personally buy Whey Protein Isolate in a bulk 40lb. bag from a creamery.

It's cheaper.

Div - the atkins bars have around 20 grams of protien depending on which kind you get. I eat them for like a snack of conveinence. Ive tried alot of different brands...the Met-RX ones are the nastiest things on the planet but have around 40 grams of protien...but they suck because they are loaded with Sugar-Alcohol which gives me the shits big time. but I drink protien shakes with 2 scoops of Whey protein which equals alittle over 40 grams if you include the milk its like 46-52 or so grams depending on how much milk I use.

nightstalker,

Sugar alcohol does that for alot of people. As long as limit it to a protein bar and nothing else, I avoid the runs. As long as you are getting 40G Whey Protein per meal you are fine...

I just bought a box of the Pure Protein bars, they have up to 32G Whey per bar. Best bar on the market in terms of cost vs. benefit.
