It is Nice to see the Sun Again

I want to give you all a rare look into what I do for a living and a little about my home life.

While my job has its rewards, so many that it is hard to fathom sometimes, we are getting into a period where the weather had better change or some may go "mid-evil".

It might be me!

You see, we have had about three to four weeks of cloudy weather. "Cloudy" at 4,000 plus feet in the western Cascades in Washington State means "in the cloud". Very fog like. Mist. Alfred Hitchcock would love it here type weather. It is getting old!

Throw in several thousand visitors a day asking “where is the mountain? "

"I came all the way from (you fill in the blank) to see the blank, blank and blank mountain and today I can't see it".

Of recent however, I have had the audacity to laugh in their face, in a very professional manner of course. "I work here every day and I have not seen it in three weeks. Don't take it personally!"

Bless the folks that hang around for hours, all day and past closing time just on the off chance they may get a fleeting glance of the peak.

My son gave me a stark reminder on Friday as we ate breakfast and they readied for their last day of school, just how dreary it has been in the upper northwest. We are always talking, laughing and giggling about the rain, sun or the forecasters themselves, as a trio, but this time it was different.

"But seriously dad” asked my eleven year old “when is the sun going to come out"

Jeeze, I have had a sun tan since early February. It has been awesome here in Carolina for months.

(The humidity has caught us now, however)
