A Great Friday Night

Once again, I am still at a loss to describe a relationship.

A gal I was introduced to a couple of weeks ago and I took hiking last Wednesday accompanied me to the Oregon Symphony with Garrison Keillor on Friday night. She gave me no indication how she would dress, but I work dark, conservative, clothes with my cowboy boots trying to not out do, or be out done, by whatever she might wear. I couldn't find my bolo, otherwise, I would have worn that.

When I picked her up, she was wearing a handsome western ensemble of fashionable jeans, a black vest and blouse. Not exactly uptown Portland for the Schnitz, but she certainly looked good. I couldn't have predicted that we might look so good together in stylish western wear.

Once I picked her up, it took us a solid hour plus to get into Portland. We chatted, but realized that we didn't have time to get a real dinner before the show.

Garrison Keillor was funny and there is nobody that appreciates good subtle, romantic humor more than I! At one point, as he was telling the story of a couple that shared a long marriage and the symphony bolted into the "Just Married" march, I noticed her sniffling and she wiped a couple of tears away. The two of us laughed and giggled at the program that was backed up by the Oregon Symphony in that beautifully, acoustically, gifted theater.

After the program, we drove somewhat quietly, bordering on awkward back towards the north. I couldn't quite place the mood as a few raindrops thankfully, hit the windshield. We actually stopped in Woodland and joined high school football teams from Woodland, Hoquiam and Centralia at local McDonald's for a bit of a snack. What a shock to the system from the atmosphere of the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall to a small town McDonald's on a football friday night! It was only then that our mood lightened up a little. We laughed and giggled as we told high school stories while watching the high schoolers. You had to grin!

It was going on midnight and there were choices to be made. I had to work in the morning, but I had been able to dedicate the evening entirely to her. Sure enough, when we arrived at her house, she invited me in!

More in the next post!
