the mile high club

Once again its the annual Sunderland International Airshow at Seaburn, Tyne & Wear at the weekend.
For those people who don't know what it is - its a FREE airshow put on by the local council which attracts hundreds of thousands of people from far and wide.

The problem is its fine if you are not
a) a resident of the surrounding area, ie Seaburn or Roker etc who cannot get their cars in or out of their own streets
or
b) a council tax paying member of society who is funding the event and does not want to contribute money towards the event that could pay for better services and facilities for members of the city.

But what if you are a resident who is forced out if their home for the weekend and/or even worse paying through your nose for something you don't want and believe it to be a waste of money. Unfortunately members of my family are in both of the above categories. I think its a disgrace.

Councils

If you feel that strongly, do something. Talk to the councilors, tell them your grievances, draw up a petition. Next time there's an election, ask the candidates what they think and vote for the anti-airshow one, or stand for election yourself.

They'll probibly say it bring in money to local business, so you reply "if local business want this so much, why don't they pay for it?"

I'd vote for you! If I lived in Sunderland.
