The Goat is Gone

I have been busier than a one legged man at an ass kicking contest!! The prognoses is not good, while there were a lot of finger prints and shoe tracks at my place, none of them are of known criminals. The cops are saying I will probably never see my beloved Goat again. They think it is already in a chop shop or in some private collectors stash sigh. While I know it was only a thing and as such is not as important as people I still feel like part of my heart has been ripped from me. I went to the insurance office Monday, my agent informed me that I did not have a classic car rider on my policy so it would be treated as a normal car. In other words said value of one 1966 pontiac Gto is $ 600.00. That doesn't even cover the cost of the tires on her!I hate insurance underwriters I think they are all crooks and thieves! They are working up estimates of damage to my house and actual loss costs. I wonder how much of that they can get out of paying? One good thing my friends and neighbors helped clean up and we got one bathroom usable. Had to go back to work yesterday so now I will have to work doubly hard to get the place ready for sweetie. Hope after this she will still want to live there.

Damn, Micah! I'm in the life and health insurance business. Took the training for property & casualty but decided not to get into it because of all the service work and changing that goes on with insuring autos, homes and other property.

A suggestion for you, before you accept your insurance company's claim payment. There's a big difference between $600, the normal book value of a 1966 GTO, and it's actual value as a restored classic vehicle. I think you quoted $60,000 in a previous post?

1. The agent has an obligation to you, the insured, to understand what you are insuring and advise you accordingly. Somewhere, you did not get good advice. If you had understood about the 'Classic Car' Rider, I am sure you would have opted for it. For your agent not to pick up on the fact that your GTO was worth so much money and then recommend their 'Classic Car' rider represents incompetence and perhaps a legal negligence. If you were not offered this rider, and if your agent knew of your GTO's value, then you may have a valid case to pursue. You can pursue your complaint thru the Missouri Department of Insurance in Jefferson City or you can pursue it legally by hiring an attorney familiar with insurance law.
2. You have a tremendous loss here, so don't sign an acceptance form for whatever they ultimately offer to pay you. Take your time. Do your homework and look out for yourself. You mentioned your future father-in-law has an insurance practice. If he handles property & casualty insurance, run all this by him and get his advice too.

Good luck to you, Micah! I just hate it that you lost your GTO!

Here I am all ready to tell you to buy another goat, to a farm auction or look in the "pets for sale" page of the paper.

I'm sorry about the car though, thats a shame......

In absolute agreement with Tige on this one. Fight it with every fiber of your being.
I also own a couple of rare things, including a 1974 Gibson Less Paul guitar that was involved in meeting Kitty.
It's book value is about what they quoted you for your goat, but it means far more to me and I will never sell it.

Kitty has told me she would live in a cardboard box, as long as I'm with her, and I'd bet anything that the future Mrs M.B. would do exactly the same.

Also, if you can afford it, a private investigator might be able to help.
