Essentially, I believe I know myself pretty well. It is key, I think, not to delude oneself about the ugly things, or mislead about the things one hopes for… I try to be honest with myself about the parts of myself I am familiar with ‒ good or bad. I know that I can be a hard-ass, competitive, insecure at times, without tact, moody, over-analytical, self-defeating, judgmental, etc. I can also be very loyal and trustworthy, sincere and more generous than I can often afford to be, a giver, funny, smart and selfless, etc. But I feel the important thing is not just knowing who I am, but embracing it, being true to myself and never forgetting that there is always room for improvement. We cannot stand in our own way in the struggle to be the best we can be. The best gift we often deprive ourselves of is forgiveness… for others, yes, but more importantly, for ourselves.
