Everyone but me is headed out of here tomorrow for an all day memorial get together for my recently departed uncle (work duties won't allow me to go). His last wish was there be no formal funeral, that there be a party instead and it got me to thinking.

I've always thought that I wanted a good old fashioned Irish wake. Lots of good food, plenty of alcohol, good music, all my friends and acquaintances getting together and remembering me in positive ways.

The idea of a stuffy ritual funeral with everyone crying and dressed in black kind of horrifies me. I want people's last memory of me to be happy and joyful, not dark and painful.

How about everyone else out there? Anyone agree with me? Any proponents of the formal ritual funeral?
