Good / Bad - Black / White... I DON'T THINK SO!

Ever wonder if someone had to characterize you right this moment whether you'd be rated a Good or Bad Person?

I was talking with a lady friend today who continues to amaze me on a regular basis. Just when I think I have her pegged she does something to surprise me and make me re-evaluate my thinking on any given subject or in this case on her.. (incidentally, she moved further up on the wonderful scale and probably has no idea it even happened)

Am I alone in trying to classify actions, events and people into categories like Good / Bad, Nice / Mean, Responsible / Reckless, Moral / Immoral, Selfish / Giving ?

It's not that I don't recognize that the real world and every situation in it is made up of a billion shades of grey but is it wrong to drink them all in and then form a judgement that then guides my thinking regarding that issues? I alwaays figured as long as I don't caste my decision in concrete and I'm open to new information it's not only normal but actually appropriate to categories things.

Well, that's been pretty abstract up till now so I'll bring it all back into personal perspective.

My spouse and I were arguing for a change Something about her not getting something or other she wanted regardless of who else has to sacrafice, but I digress. During the argument she harped on the fact that she claims I'm judgemental and opinionated!

Now being the introspective guy I am I didn't just dismiss this comment as further attempts at manipulating me despite a huge body of history pointing to the contrary

I probably should have but I actually found myself thinking about it and wondering hmm, am I that far out of the mainstream way of evaluating a situation person or thing? Should I be more open to alternative points of view on a given subject despite the vast experience I've amassed (as we all do going through life) and not form any opinions and judgements on a subject until I have unequivocal evidence? BZZT, I don't think so!

But then again the great thing about this site and the people I've become friendly with is the diversity of views! So if you read this and think "wow, nope he doesn't get it" feel free to help me get it!

In the mean time I think I'm going to continue to put things into their appropriate slots in my mind but I'll also continue to print those labels in pencil since I think I'd be foolish to think they never change!

All except for the one marked "Self Centered, manipulative, ungrateful, hurtful, mean ..." That one I think is pretty well hardened and correctly assigned, lol..

only the truly manipulative ones will try to make you think that you are manipulative.
Other than that, call me any name under the book if you like; if you're wrong then you're wrong. Just remember that it was all those names you fell in love with, lady.
Arguing gives no right for hateful judgement
