now, some of you may be asking why nicky why? what has he ever done? well ill tell you!
It is believed that George was ordered to take part in the persecution but instead confessed to being a Christian himself and criticised the imperial decision. An enraged Diocletian proceeded in ordering the torture of this apparent traitor and his execution. According to the tradition, after various tortures, George was executed by decapitation in front of Nicomedia's defensive wall on April 23, 303. The witness of his suffering convinced Empress Alexandra and Athanasius, a pagan priest, to also become Christians, and so they also joined George in martyrdom as consequence. His body was then returned to Lydda for burial, where Christians soon came to honour George as a martyr.

The tale begins with a dragon making its nest at the spring which provides a city-state with water. Consequently, the citizens had to temporarily remove the dragon from its nest in order to collect water. To do so, they offered the dragon a daily human sacrifice. The victim of the day was chosen by drawing lots. Eventually the "winner" of this lottery happened to be the local princess. The local Monarch is occasionally depicted begging for her life with no result. She is offered to the dragon but at this point a travelling George arrives. He faces the dragon, slays it and saves the princess. The grateful citizens then abandon their ancestral Paganism and convert to Christianity.

Very interesting Nicky....The first part I did not know that about St.George. But I knew about the dragon story. Some great reasearch!!
One other thing I would like to know is when will St.Georges Day become a Bank Holiday in England? Scotland & Whales have one for their saints I think. Then he would have done something great for us all. Take care Steve x

Hi Nicky,
Thanks Nicky for the reply to my comment honey.I could not agree with more with what you said. I forgot about all this sort of political rubbish when I posted.....thing's are far to politically correct in the U.K....oh,oh, we can't do that we might offend someone! lol. What a load of Bull! The last time a looked I thought England was a free country with free speech....Now I'm told I can't even have a Bank Holiday in my own country...sniff! What's going on? Who makes up theses stupid ideas?....has the U.K on completely nuts?
I for one think, that after all we are all human! No matter what race or religion....we all should just try and get along with each other and learn to respect each others beliefs....Also what about all this rubbish about people have to take down their St.Georges flags out side their houses {think it was after the last Euro footie competition}....Has the St.Georges cross flag become an icon of race hate oe are people too sensitive?......another can of worms opened! lol Luv to hear from you Nicky and get to know you as friend. Please drop me me an e mail.

Take care Steve x
