Great Big Sea

OK...didn't mean the real sea...but the group.

Last night (saturday) I went to my first concert in a decade. It was amazing.

I love this group called Great Big Sea. If you haven't heard of em...just look around...their website is EASY to could give em a listen as well. They are termed as celtic rock by some but I have heard their music on rock, pop, country etc stations. Their sound is truly unique in that they have taken from their roots (Newfoundland, Canada natives that they are...well most of em...they have a new man from Toronto now). They are able to get a crowd rocking!!!

So, we (my son, my honey and I ) were all ready to go see Great Big Sea. The boy and I met my honey at our official meeting spot LOL and then set off knowing full well that we had one hell of a trek in front of us. The Molson Indy was going on and that meant we'd be stuck walking. It was going to be a hike to get to where we needed to be, not to mention the travel time on our local transit.

We got there...and started the walk. It was funny...the closer we got...the more excited I got. My 5 year old was ready. He just wanted to see his "big sea".

(note to time we get there earlier, eat first and won't be during the freakin indy...I promise).

We bought our dinner...and heard the strains from the band...hurriedly we rushed up the stairs to our seats. So you know...there are no bad seats at a Great Big Sea Concert. My wee son was so entranced. He was seeing his band on the overhead screen AND they were there on the stage too. The look of awe on his face would make any parent proud. He was entranced. I got to see him see them (his band) a whole new way. He loved the concert and he got a T-shirt to commemorate it.

I found that honey has the patience of job and the sense of humor to make tense situations wonderful. He even assisted in the time honored tradition of taking the boy to do his first piddle in a parking lot (the boy had to the worst way...and there was no bathroom close LOL ). Yes...the peeing took two tries (he was shy the first time...but had to go enough the second time that he dropped his drawers where we were standing LOL and then was led to an appropriately camoflauged area to do what he needed to do. As honey said "I just hope the people by those cars can see the light shining off the lake the boy just made and don't step in it" LOL.

I'd love to have this idyllic ending but the boy fell asleep and was woke up so many times that he got REALLY cranky. But you know what...even with an annoyed little person being loud and cranky...I wouldn't have had it any other way. Got to spend time with someone who means more to me each and every day...and my favorite little person in this world. Life was good...and I had a blast. I can't wait for the next concert.
