Lost A Dear Friend

Today is a sad day at our home. We had two dogs....they are our friends. One is Ice Man, a pure Doberman, red.
The other is Taz. She is half Besingee and half Doberman, black and tan. When I met Mr.L, he had had her for a year. We have been together for 11 years. She was a year old when he got her from the pound.
She traveled with him for the year he had her without me. Took her to the ocean...hell, he took her everywhere. She loved the words "bye, bye". Any time it wasn't too hot or too ciold, the friends went with us. They slept on the couch. They cleaned our plates of leftovers. They are our kids, they just have 4 legs.
I called Taz my Dogder (dog/daughter). She would take naps with me. Besingees (sure I'm spelling it wrong) don't bark, they talk. She talked and barked. That made her more unique. She got bit by a snake one summer, and I sat up with her all night.
Well, today at 2 PM, she had a stroke. That was followed by a series of more. She laid in our bathroom floor, with her beautiful head on my lap, and took her last breath at 4PM.
We went out to her favorite spot on the front yard, and tried to dig her grave. Oklahoma has some hard dirt. We used water to losen it up. It took the three of us (Mr. and Mrs.L, and our daughter) 3 or 4 hours to get through the dirt to make the hole large enough for her.
She has been in Mr.L's life for 12 years...longer than any woman he has ever been with. She has been in my life for 11 years. She has become part of our hearts.
Our Granddaughter asked us where Taz went. Her Mom said Taz went "bye, bye" because she was really old. She was 13.
She will be missed every hour of every day for the rest of our lives. We are all 3 in real bad shape. We just wanted to honor her memory by telling everyone what a wonderful companion she was. She never even whimpered while she was having seisures. She was a good friend til the end.
Bye, bye, Taz!! We loved you with all our hearts. Bubba (Ice Man) is laying in the spot we laid her to wrap her in preperation for burial.

We'll leave the light on for you.

You have my complete sympathies. I lost a cat who'd owned me for almost 20 years last September when she died of liver failure caused by cancer. I still miss her.

I am so sorry. So very sorry.
Dogs are special creatures. Loving and faithful in a way that people rarely are.
How sad.

i'm so sorry to hear that! my condolences...

we had to say goodbye to our cocker last December...he'd been with us for 12 years, and would have been 16 in January...

your other dog will be lonely, too...take comfort from each other

Thanks, our other dog has been getting extra attention, and extra treats. He's doing better...thanks for thinking of him. It was his loss, as well.

We'll leave the light on for you.
