Sept 11 - 5 years on

Has it been 5 years it seems like only yesterday! I must admit when i heard the news I was not shocked by the news we were hit by terrorists. I WAS shocked by the audacity of the attack and its complexity. I was most moved when the buildings fell and thought to myself ive just seen 25,000 peple killed. With happiness it wasnt 25,000 but even the 2700+ who did fall was 1 too many! What we did see and continue to see is a more intuned America the nation as a whole was stunned as never before by a terroist act. That day we joined so many other nations who have had horrble evil done against them. But remember these same people had tried to bring these buildings down a few years before and when one prisoner was being flown to in an FBI helicopter the agent said look you failed! His response was "for now!" That is why I wasnt shocked that they struck again! But now we are learning just how myopic our political leaders were and just how bad our government operates when disaster occures. It was a sad comment that when Katrina hit last year to see our government still hasnt learned the lesson on Sept 11 vis-a-vis response to a serious disaster. The state of communications at the highest level of our Government that day was for want of a beter word a total failure.

Five years on bin Laden can now slip into Pakistan and as of last week be virtually given a pass to roam the country free from arrest if he doesnt act overtly in a terrorist action. The Taliban which was never defeated is in a determined fight with British and Canadaian troops in a province the US Army turned over to NATO. That fight has been given 6 months to win by the British General in command. Rather than put boots on the ground and fight the terrorists in Afghanistan we sent a relative token force (never much more than 15,000troops) to fight alongside indigenous fighters and while the battle was still on we then attacked a country with no ties to terrorism.

Looking back 5 years on we have all failed. We as a citizenry awakened to the evil that lurks far too late. Our political masters put off the tough issue of terrorism until it was unleashed on our doorstep. Our Senate and Congress gave the President a blank check to divert our "war on terror" rather that do the job the constitution ask of them to debate and decide the validity of force. It is not anti American to ask the President tough questions and demand answers not estimations when our most valued treasure is at stake. Failure to do so is I say in fact a crime against our children that we ask to bear the burden their leaders cowered to understand themselves. And the press, well Dan Rather summed that up when he told BBC Newsnight that American journalists did not seriously look into claims made about Iraq or the war on terror as the public was for war and, they journalists, wanted to not be seen as unpatriotic! Yes that is a true fact if you doubt me check it out foor yourself!!

We can not win this war as long as we dont bring a new way of thinking to those would be terroists. We are fighting an idea with bullets and making a fresh batch of terroists with every battle we fight. The key is to show the Islamists who are would be terroists a differnet path to walk. But how we do that is the key to winning the war!

Let us never forget those brave souls who risked their lives in the aftermath searching for the dead and cleaning up the horror that was the World Trade Center. Today many are sick and dying other have already died from the air they breathed. They are victims too! Only they fight to live and die in silence. Lift them up in prayer tonight and ask for His will be upon them and their families too!!

Yes, we must never forget those brave souls, nor any of the young gentleman and ladies who have given us their lives over so many years so that we may live in freedom.

And yes we should hold our leaders to account.
