Space age public toilets

As I cycled up one of the nastiest steep hills in Dudley today, the one with a Magistrates Court half way up I was reminded of how many places have become less friendly to shop in since I was a small boy.
At the top of the hill is what appears to be an open and free public convenience run by the council. These are a rare thing these days. The last public toilets of this sort vanished from places like Birmingham about 10 years ago. We have to use toilets in shops which is OK in the day but a nightmare for clubbers coming home at 3am busting for a pee.
The only public toilets available now are the pay toilets with the worrying automatic door. You pay, the door opens and then you are surposed to be able to lock it from inside with a button. Nice concept???
I will be forever haunted by the image of a startled middle age woman sat in one such toilet I passed. Her knickers around her ankles, as the door decided to open early. The poor woman could do very little as she was in the middle of business.
That put me right off ever using one of the contraptions.
Bring back the public toilet

Don't ever give up searching for the fun in life.

I would never trust my privacy with anything "automatic" furnished (and maintained) by the public sector...I base that on my recent experience with the post office's Mailing of which hasn't worked for a week, the other of which is stuck.

It's not the risk of public exposure that I mind, it's the thought of having to pay for it twice, once through my taxes and once at the door.
Thankfully the UK post office service is quite good at delivering without damage.
