I forgive him....honest....!!!

OK, so I was cycling home on a lovely summery day today. I cycle to work as much as I can because of the health benefits.
Anyhow, today was not so beneficial. Cycling down towards a rather large traffic island with a big bronze/sparkly winged horse on it I decided to get on the pavement and cross the roads on foot. Bad move. Some guy was coming the other way on his bicycle, (No helmet), going too fast to stop and with no regard for anyone else.
I swerved, braked too hard and hit a bump in the pavement all at the same time then skidded several yards on my face. As I was going down I observed my right hand hitting the floor first and bending back. OUCH. No broken bones....but very painful and swelling.

He said nothing, just handed me the bits of my shattered helmet and rode on.

I suffered half an hour of strange concussion sensations such as ultra bright colours and blurred vision.

As I fought against the urge to pass-out on the pavement passers by stopped and showed concern. I'm grateful for that.
I looked quite dramatic with blood coursing from my chin.
I cycled slowly home, people I passed asking if I was OK and pointing out the bleeding chin.

Still things to be happy about.

I didn't come off and land on the cross bar. A friend of mine did that at school and lost a nut.

I didn't come off in front of a truck/car/bus/lorry to become a pancake.

I got home alive.

I only ruined my oldest shirt and trousers.

It could have been much worse.

What ever you all do, be safe, take care.

Hmmm thanks susie1971 lovelyLady and saddletrampsk

I've just been to Accident and Emergency at The Royal Hospital, (Wolves). I walked since I wasn't happy about driving, the bicycle is unsafe and I'm too skint for a taxi or bus.

Lovely staff, superb all round. I was X rayed and they found no breaks. But boy is it swellng. The doctor suggested that I try and use the hand normally and to use ice to reduce the swelling. So I may be able to return to work on monday.
Hmmmm, well I'm practicing writing fast with my left hand just in case because I hate being off work.

I have a less forgiving nature. Back in 1989, I was forced into a bridge railing. I still have not forgiven or forgotten. I was crossing a small concrete bridge when an oncoming cyclist decided that because he was part of a large group, he should be able to go three abreast across the bridge. I took the rail to avoid a head on collision. I used my arm as a brake pad. Talk about road rash. A couple of cyclists later on stopped to help me. Sometimes I wish I had taken the head on just to get back at the asshole.

Seventeen years later and I hope he hits a stick and it flips into his front spokes.

I'm not usually a mean guy. And thanks for the post.
