Browsing Profiles vs Blogging....My First Week on AFF.

Profiles of folks of unlimited variety,
Interesting blogs covering all of society.
Yet time is limited by the real world calling,
How shall we spend it? Writing or balling?

I have been a member here for about a week now. Just for funsies, I would like to give y'all a general overview of my experience and my quandry.

The first 10 hours or so I furiously browsed the profiles of women in my area. I bookmarked many of them. I wrote to about 30 of them. The first dozen or so I wrote a different note each time. They were rather short notes, fairly basic. Just kind of an introduction and sending my profile on over to them. Being new, I hadn't got a feel for what was the best way to initiate a contact letter wise.

But even short notes were taking time, so I began sending a "pre-packaged, pre-formatted, conceptualized, capsulized, compacted, user friendly, Howdy Doody this is me" kind of a note so I could get a higher number of letters out there. I understand basic math so naturally I wanted to flood the market knowing that was the best way to meet.

Well, that is the best way to meet NOW. But as my initial excitement approached it's peak and I had time to ponder I decided that perhaps NOW, was not necessarily what might be BEST.

I became more selective in my browsing and even more selective in my letter writing. I found I was only sending out a letter here and a letter there. And I made sure to spend some time and give each one a lot of thought and make it individualized. My numerical odds are shot with this reduction in initial contacts so I am less concerned with it now.

Why is this? Well, it is because I discovered BLOGGING! Now I spend almost all my time in the blog area of this site and hardly write any letters at all. Unless it is to my newfound blogging buddies. Folks of both genders. Folks of all levels from society and from all around the world. Folks with so many varied traits it is a wonder and a delight to my imagination to interact with them. The vast majority of these blogs are quite good. Very few of them really suck. No matter what the bloggers' background, education level, financial profile or sexual preference each of you has something to say. The only blogs I don't read all the way through are the blogs that are advertisements. Jeeze, these are basically profiles and I avoid them. (I term these blogs "BLOFILES").

I am hooked. I am so completely fascinated by these little peeks into peoples lives that it is difficult for me to drag myself back to profiles of the local girls and my prospects there. In the course of one week I went from bird dog to orator and now I will probably never get laid...Lol. Who cares? I am having a blast!
Love you all...

PS: I invite some more of y'all to take a gander at my true story that I wrote the other day. Several have told me that it was worth the time to read. Thanx...

I have been on this site for around 4 month now and went through the same thing, surfing profiles, mailing local women and anyone that viewed my profile, then I found Bloggin and that’s it, I should leave a note on my profile that says read my blog if you want to contact me LOL.
I will probably suffer the same fate when it comes to getting laid but hey what’s new!

Welcome, hope you stick around

Thank You for Your Time and Attention

Hiya Keith, I replied to your post in my blog but will kinda repeat myself here....

On another site that was more video oriented I did just what you initially did, I call it the 'shotgun' method, compose a very nice message and then send it off to 100 profiles, figguring I will have a few hits. It actually did succeed I guess since the one person I still talk to from that site was one I wrote to in that fasion. But I think the best and most honest way is the way you and I now employ, taking your time and writing specifically to each person. The down side of that is if you spend 15-30 minutes composing a message, odds are it will just end up deleted since the women here get so many messages. However, like sifting through a bunch of rubble for one gem, I think the results are worth the effort.

I too just began my jouney with blogging, its something I never really thought I would do but because this site is completely anonymous (as in no one that knows me in real life knows I come here) I can say exactly whats on my mind and talk about things I have NEVER been able to talk about with 'real' friends (not meaning to imply that real friendships can develope here, just that my local poker buddies would never have the kind of discussions that you find here).

The down side of blogging over profile surfing is while your chances of meeting wonderful people are much higher, the best ones will be located hundreds or thousands of miles away.

I am hoping that in the near future AdultFriendFinder will add a search option that allows you to locate bloggers near your own location. To me thats would make the blog area the best of both worlds.

Thanks again for posting to my blog and I too enjoyed your 'true story' as well as several of your other posts

ugh.. can't edit my post.. 3rd paragraph, sounds like I say real friendships can't develop here, thats incorrect, I know they can from my own experiences. Also should mention I have been a paying member for seven months and before that I was here off and on a lot, one of my best friends is someone I met via this site 2 1/2 years ago.

I think this is an epidemic. People leaving the standard A-F-F functions behind to get lost in Blog land. I've been here about a year and a half and had been very active in some chat rooms. I met many friends there. I spend some time away from the site and when I came back I began a systematic method of searching and contacting. I got little response. Then I found Group discussions and got involved there. But since I've found the Blogs, I spend little/no time on those other things. Or just give them cursory attention. I'm Blogging instead.. lol

Why is this so much more fun? hmmmmmm

I started here at about the same time as you. I've had experience of blogs elsewhere, and I know that you can't trust many of the profiles to be honest, so I avoided them. Blogs and the groups / chatrooms. Fine, I don't spend a great deal of time in the blogs now, I find I can catch a few good and interesting people by seeing how they react to one another online and with cams; it has been an eyeopener since I've never done cam2cam or watched cam before. With my preferences, it is a must!

Writing letters or descriptions to people? I don't know. I've gained a few good friends very quickly here, but I confine all my letter writing to Real Life, pen and ink; I find that much more satisfying in so many different ways. I've replied to a few who've been in touch with me; hotlisted and winked at a few without result, and it's been good so far. Let's lay back, relax and see what the second week brings with it!

Lol, I suppose that I should have foreseen that question expat. It is true that I can cook, somewhat (I am a much better baker than cook). But the fact is tha I have been a single parent with custody for almost 9 yrs now. My nickname comes from the fact that I had to feed them over all that time...

Well hello doorkeeper and hail! I would be very pleased if you kept up with things here and I urge you to start a blog on this site yourself. I would love to visit Scotland as soon as may be. Awesome coastline there as well as a rich history!

That 's so familiar.
Only in my case I got into AdultFriendFinder for blogging, not for dating.
I barely sent a couple of winks, never a letter really. But I started reading blogs, posting notes, thought of creating my own blog. I ended up crating it by mistake, as I was researching how to create a blog. [big time panic].
But as soon as I got started, I just couldn't stop. I don't know how long this will last, I don't have that many stories to tell...
Still, so far, it 's been a hell of a ride and I feel like I 've really made some friends...

Damn you have a nice basement and you keep it neat and tidy must be tuff with the kids and all.

When I first started I spent all my time reading profiles. beeing a standard member I have to google them and some I cant get. I didn't know what a blog was until I cliked on it.

I don't think I have read a profile other than the people who visit my blog since.

I swear, who needs AdultFriendFinder anyway? I can get dates on my own. Blogging is what keeps me coming back to the site. Thanks for visiting, old one!
