Just a simple question...

Why are professional football players introduced by listing the college they attended. Like so many others I watched last night's game for the commercials, so I had ample time to ponder this very perplexing question.

"... and on the offense for the Seattle Seahawks we have, (insert name) 13 years out of the University of (insert state name)."

It occurs to me that most of our professional athletes hone their talents in college; hey I bet a few of them actually manage to earn a worthwhile degree, but to my mind only in football is it relevant,13 years after the fact, where the guy went to school.

For example, baseball players are usually described by their farm team beginnings and basketball players by their previous teams, which I suppose doesn't say much for job satisfaction in the NBA.

In college (as if anyone should care 20 years after the fact) I tutored for the Athletic Dept. and no offense but the football players were always my greatest challenge.

Which reminds me of a funny:

One day a housework-challenged husband decided to wash his sweatshirt. Seconds after he stepped into the laundry room, he shouted to his wife, "What setting do I use on the washing machine?"

"It depends," she replied. "What does it say on your shirt?"

He yelled back, "University of Oklahoma."
