THEY KILL HORSES

She tried to hold on to the wall.
She stuck her nails in the plaster
leaving ten scratches behind,
full of belated hope and blood.
Then she collapsed to the floor.
Her teeth were unable to hold the existence
that found liberty.
She had arrived at the end.
She had brought the end.
Pain froze on her face -
and a motionless night
wove an invisible wreath on her hair.
Her eyes, overwhelmed by the beauty
of this peace, looked like
they were trying to part the darkness.
It was very cold; so cold that
the body merged with the floor and the walls
and became one with the stone.
She had given witness to this earth.
She had passed.
Respect her silence.

This is dedicated to someone who
no-longer is. That someone has
been present in almost everyone's
life. It is certainly bold to post
it here but hopefully it will be
understood.

The only thing I can connect this to is "They Shoot Horses Don't They"
movie about the dance marathons they held during the depression. People trying to survive. Suicides were common.

That story is indeed very powerful. Its conclusion, though,
is much more general and this is waht I was trying to write
about: how people are soetimes pushed to self-destruction
when they do not want to fit in. Being sensitive is a
dangerous way of living.
