NUMB

When the pain permeates the mind, a formal feeling settles
- the first chill in the snow transforms into frozen stupor.
Endless pain that is too deep to feel any longer
turns the body into an automaton of reaction
as the mind, numb, is entrapped into half-existence.
And yet, sometimes, the withered lips dare to whisper
words they would not believe they could say.
Sometimes the hands dare to touch,
somewhat awakened from their slumber
- how could they be withheld from touching on you?

The Soul unto itself
Is an imperial friend
Or the most agonizing Spy
An Enemy could send...

Secure against its own
No treason it can fear
Itself its Sovereign of itself
The Soul should stand in "Awe"

Thank you...Wonderful
to see...

You have just explained to me why I feel a raport with Emily Dickinson. Thank you.

Interestingly enough I have felt the same several times in my life.

It wasn't all that long ago
when my heart had turned
to stone ...

My soul had found it's winter
its pain a well-worn cloak ...

I held my body close to me
the only touch I would allow ...

and then the thaw began ...

That was lovely and had a tone of optimism in self-contentment.
Thank you Huntress!!!!
