The Charm of the South.....

Not that you can really tell, at least not from talking to me anyway, but I was born and spent alot of years in Texas. I briefly entertained the idea, ok, more than once and more often than not lately, of returning home, at least for awhile. Long enough to get the accent that I spent so many years trying to get rid of and for the most part accompolished back. It took me 2 years to break the habit of saying ya'll.
Maybe I'm just getting tired of the fast pace, maybe I miss what was so deeply ingrained into me from my southern mama, those old time southern customs, anyone from the South knows what I'm talking about.
I was watching a show yesterday, the location was Austin Texas, you have no idea how homesick that made me, haven't been back home in 20+ years, but home is always home no matter how long your away.

Italian by birth - Southern by the Grace of God.

That's the motto I live by!

I still say 'ya'll' - quite proudly I might add. I also still say "fixin'" !

If I'm lucky, I'll get a chance to return to Arkansas permantely.

But, until them one of these days I'm gonna have to take you on a 'roadie' up Hwy 231 and Hwy 78 into Memphis

As long as you introduce her to ME, Mr. Kingsnake. I'd love to hear her Texas accent. And by the way, Memphis is a fun town! Ya'll need to come visit!

"Italian by birth--Southern by the Grace of God". . .I almost choked on my Budwei--I mean, Coke when I read that! hahahahahahahahahahaHAHAHA! That was a good one. . .I guess if you want to THINK you're a good'ol'Southern boy, then I won't stop you, Mr. Kingsnake. . .

You're right, Heavensent--home IS still home, no matter where you hang your hat later in life. Once a year, I make a trip to my old hometown to run in their annual 4-mile race, and I always make it a point to drive by the "old homeplace."
