Gone and Back Again

I just returned from a week long trip to Washington DC and Ole Kentucky. Washington would have been the pits had it not been for the people I met there. I love people who are open, thoughtful, caring, and intelligent. The city of Washington, though full of tourist attractions, museums, and monuments was dreary. There is a great deal of the city that is not cared for and the people living in those areas have terrible conditions to deal with. I wonder why we are not funneling money out of pork barrel project and into real improvements for the people who are in such need.
After 3 days, I drove to Kentucky where the landscape is magnificent. Lush, green hills were filled with horses and farm animals. Yes, there are many poor people there. But their surroundings make life a little more tolerable. I could see myself retiring to Kentucky one day. I guess I'm just a small town sort of person who is feeling a bit overwhelmed by the hustle-bustle life of the Metro-Atlanta area. A friend I visited in Kentucky was complaining about the traffic (there were three cars ahead of him). As I drove home, I could feel the tension building. Traffic, pollution, noise, and hostility from people on the road made me want to turn around and head back.
