Stem cell research

I do not usually offer much praise to anything in the Republican party platform or any Republican elected officials as I disagree with 99.9% of what they have to offer to me as a voter/activist. However on this occasion, I would like to offer a bit of praise to Senate majority Leader Bill Frist to have the courage to disagree with George Bush (sorry I just cannot call him President) on stem cell research. As a doctor, Senator Frist is holding true to his Hippocratic oath to heal the sick and not bow to the far right on bucking the will of the majority and meaningful scientific research. George Bush even dares to disagree with Nancy Reagan, the wife of the late President of whom he claims to admire so much. George Bush does not care of literally thousands of Americans and millions of people worldwide (including yours truly) could benefit from stem cell research. He chooses to side with the lunatic fringe, the far right of the Republican party (sorry, these folks are not Republicans, they are fascists as far as I am concerned) who would not only disavow our Constitution and over 40 years of Supreme Court precedent to have their narrow, overly simplistic view of the world become the law of the land.
As I stated in a previous post, I am much more afraid of these folks than I am to walk down K st mall at midnight. Fascism is a scary thing and any movement towards that type of system should be solidly rejected by the republican party. Even though I would NEVER vote republican, they would certainly be to their advantage to do so as most Americans tend to hold centrist or liberal positions on these types of social issues.

Senator Frist, as a Democrat I tip my hat to you and thank you for doing the right thing.
