Soccer Groupie

I just saw a new commercial for Nike in praise of Soccer, a very underappreciated sport here in the States. If I were a sports aficionado, it would be for soccer, or football, as the rest of the world calls it.

I happened upon the sport accidentally the summer of 1994 during the World Cup. I was flipping through channels and paused too long on Univision (of course!). The most stimulating sight had caught my eye. A bunch of fit, sweaty, gorgeous men were running around a large field kicking a black and white ball around. Of course I knew what soccer was, but I had never seen it like this before.

I lingered there for while to watch. I’ve been told that you can tell a man is good in bed if he is a good dancer. I would argue that a similar statement can be made for soccer players. Just look at their amazing legs…and the way they use them! All that twisting, flipping and kicking. A soccer game lasts 90 minutes, with only one break. That’s what I call stamina!

I was hooked! I made it a point to catch every game of every World Cup from that point on. In college I was lucky enough to hook up with a guy from Trinidad who loved to play soccer…and he was pretty damn good at it. He eventually became my boyfriend and my FIRST. I remember following him around as he shopped for soccer jerseys. It was like a woman shopping for shoes. He was quite excited. That day I had sex in the men’s dressing room of Dillard’s.

Football players may have muscles. Baseball players may have great butts. Basketball players may be good with their hands. But there is nothing sexier than a soccer (football) player.

"Soccer and USA? Hahaha..." or at least, that was what we italian guys thought until 1994. Since then the US soccer team has progressed a lot, nothing to laugh about now. And I also noticed that more and more kids in american movies/TV series can be seen with a soccer ball in their hands. What does this mean? That in a 10 years' span the US will be one of the leading team in this sport as well? I hope not, but it sure means more sexy guys at hands reach (and earlier than waiting for continental shift to bring europe closer).

P.S. Versatile right side defender-forward: hope this doesn't mark me as a bi lover.

Never argue with an idiot. He brings you down to his level then beats you with experience

I played soccer as a kid in Germany and REALLY got into it back then, but never thought the US would catch on as it did overseas. And it hasn't. And probably never will. I played football and baseball in high school and baseball in college, but never thought it was much in the chick-magnet sports categories (maybe it was just me...)

I played some rugby in the Marine Corps...nowwwww...THAT is a sport!

soccer IS very underappreciated in the US. While deployed to Afghanistan I began to play the sport and loved it. Although they live with nothing, the Afghanis are very good. We played a game against the Jordanian soldiers and were slaughtered. lol
