Let Me See.....

Many years ago when I was in college, just before graduation my favorite Aunt had surgery.

She had a mastectomy.

My cousin and I saw her surgical area.

My Aunt was a school nurse.

My cousin was thinking about going into nursing.

When we said "Let me see", we were speaking of her nursing license which she had just gotten mail on it needing to be renewed.

She thought we meant her incision. We said "No" simultaneously.

Either we were more interested on seeing what we wanted to attain or had already seen her surgical site and had no need to view it again.

I think it helped her adjust to her body image.

What do you think????????

Don't worry, be Happy

We all have such trouble with our body image anyways. I think that when you can show someone something like that and they don't pass out.....or just look on it in interest.....it does help. Did your cousin go into nursing then or not?

angel at family gatherings we have a nurses convention.
Yes that cousin became a nurse,my sister is a nurse, another aunt and her daughter are nurses.Along with a sister-in-law.

Yes, we did look with interest and no passing out, but more interested in the yet unseen---Nursing License-says more about who you are then what surgery you required.

I remember seeing an advertisement or maybe it was an article, a few years back in a woman's magazine. I'm thinking maybe Oprah's O. Anyway, there were all these pictures, so tastefully and beautifully done, of women who had had mastectomies. None had reconstructive surgery and all showed their scarred chests. I remember feeling in awe of these women courageous enough to bear those scars for the world to see. I can only imagine what they went through making the decision to do the photos and how many emotions they went through when it was over and published. I would hope it helped in their healing process.
