I Wonder

I wonder what life would be like,
if color bias was not a fact of life

I don't see your color you see,
you are colorless to me,

I only see inside your heart,
where your childish dreams
still play a part,

I wonder is that how
you see me,
as colorless as I could be

To look at how much we are
alike
and not the shades that pull
apart.

God decided on your color
scheme, he used his brush
and did your theme

He picked this hue to do
me too, he was quite
satisfied it seemed.

So if our Creator painted us this way
Why can't we get along today?
I wonder

Don't worry, be Happy

Amen.
I was raised by a racist. But I learned as the years have gone by that his racism was based on ignorance. Ignorance in acknowledging and then embracing people's differences and similarities.
The small town where I grew up was 99% white folks. An occasional Latino, a few Native Americans and the only Black skin belonged to two little boys adopted by the Catholic priest and one woman, married to a White man.
For my dad, it was a fear of the unknown, of those differences, unique to each person but sometimes lumped together as a race or culture.
When my sisters and I moved to the Detriot area and my dad and mom were exposed to our friends of other races and cultures, there eyes were opened in a positive way.
My dad made the remark one day, "Shoot, I guess these guys aren't much different than me, just working and trying to take care of their families." It made me cry.
He still has his moments but he struggles to get over it, especially because he has two biracial grandchildren and he doesn't want anyone to have the attitude against them like he used to carry.

sexxikritter, Your Dad is to be commended for opening his eyes and heart at a later age when most notions are set in steel

Don't you just miss the 70's. Those times brought alot of the world together. I just wish mankind would have carried our beliefs into the future. Make Love Not War. Then you have the hippies that turned yuppies and got greedy and took up their modo All For One And One For Me.
In the words of Stevie Wonder & Paul McCartney

Live together in perfect harmony
Side by side on my piano keyboard
Oh Lord, why don't we

I think that song and attitude need a "revival"

What a great post. I am one of the privileged people in this world who is "color blind". I take people on their merit and what lies in their heart. I do have to say though that nothing infuriates me more to be accused of making a decision based on color....because that is the furthest thing on my mind. I wish the world were more like our Creator intended it to be.

It's worse when you're accused of reverse discrimination

I am color blind now...and I certainly was raised to be. I was not exposed to different races much growing up though...some chinese folks owned a cafe in our town, and my Aunt married a Cree Indian so I had a few visibly different cousins...but they didn't count, they were family!

I met my first black person when I was about 16 or 17...and due to circumstances of the day we met, we became friends and are friends to this day.

Great post free...I hope our world can get rid of the burden of racism for good.
