GREAT PARADE !!

Well, I stand humbled and corrected.
I had posted an earlier comment on the status of modern small town parades.
Yesterday I ventured out and attended our own local Rodeo Week parade and was pleasantly surprised.

There were two marching bands (well, actually one was riding on a large trailer - glad they were there), the Cub Scouts/Webelos showed up in full uniform and proud of it - the "Dairy Princess" with her crown and sash rode with a huge smile as she waved at all she past.
And there were lots and lots of horses of all sizes and breeds. There were little folks on little horses - big folks on big horses - little people on big horses - and big people on littles horses. All dressed in costume and horses covered with spectacular regalia. There were even a couple EXCELLENT stage coaches that had been completely restored in magnificent detail.
And if that wasn't enough - here they came in all their splendor and glory - those beautiful Clydesdales as they pulled their Budweiser wagon down Main Street, complete with dalmation sitting proudly on top.

The high school cheer leaders were involved and though there were no baton twirling majorettes - that was fine. Instead there was the local Karate team with there sticks that were twirling in unison.
Clowns pasted by in BRIGHT colors and large floppy shoes - and there was even a couple of well made floats.

Of course there was the few - like the business owner that just hung a sign on the side of his pick-up with his kids in their daily attire sitting on a lonely bail of hay in the back. He looked a little foolish to be involved in the festivities - but, it didn't bother me too much this time.
Everyone else had far surpassed my expectations as created through previous disappointments.
I can't even begin to remember all that past by as I stood there in awe thinking of my earlier post - I was humbled by the sight.

This has renewed my faith in small town parades. I wonder if the magic of my post had perpetuated it's outcome. If so, then next I write about world peace - the extermination of hunger and homelessness - the decay of crime - the elimation of greed - and the spread of compassion amongst all.

Love to you all, fort

NOTE: if you get 2 responses - it's because 1/2 the 1st ones didn't post - so I responded again.

ANYTIME my dear
We shall lead the parade - what a sight that would be

And remember - if you're being run out of town - stay at the head of the mob - that way it looks like you're leading a parade

One never knows what may end up on paper - sometimes words, sometimes the cat, sometimes (dang - should have never left all those papers on the bed!)

I grew up in a small town of about 400 or so. Every year we had the parade complete with horseshoes competition and softball tournament...all after the parade of course!!......and before the rodeo..

Hey Lusty - in the early 80's I lived in a small town of 700 - but, I'm pretty sure that counted the dogs, cats, and the livestock in the rodeo.
When a small town of 400 has a parade AND a rodeo - now THAT'S spirit.
