I Love Carlos Mencia

Well, I was watching Mind of Mencia on Comedy Central the other night. If you are not familiar with the show, it features Carlos Mencia, a Hispanic comedian who loves to point out the ridiculousness of racism sexual discrimination, stereotyping, and other social diseases. I love the man. He flat out tells it like it is, with no sugar coating, no politically correct nonsense.

He often accuses various people of being mentally retarded when they do something really stupid that he thinks an adult of at least average intelligence should know better than to do, and when he labels people as such, he pretends to be stereotypically retarded. He talks slow, makes weird noises and gimps around the stage with one hand bent against his chest.

Every time he does that, I think “Man, he’s really gonna piss off somebody by acting that way.”

Well, it turns out that he gets hate mail and hate email about it all the time. The other night he read a letter on the air, and the author was bashing him for making fun of mentally challenged individuals.

Mr. Mencia explained that he would NEVER, EVER make fun of ANY person who had actual mental disabilities. Instead, he was making fun of people who were born without a mental handicap, but despite their normal intelligence, they sometimes acted and related to other people as if they were retarded, or they acted in a stupid or clueless fashion. He then told the author that he was a RETARD for not being able to tell the difference.

I had to laugh, because it reminded me of a few people I know, both in real life and here in Blogland.

Now if this account offends you, please do not get mad at me. I’m just relating the words of a popular entertainer. I would never abuse my blog in such a grotesque fashion as to bruise anyone’s feelings or egos. I would be more responsible in my choice of words, but I did not choose the words in above account. Carlos Mencia said those things, not me. I actually watered down his exact words somewhat to soften any potential emotional bruising that might occur. No need to thank me; I'm just a nice guy like that!

The written word can be perceived many, MANY ways. People should take that into consideration when reading anything. A certain person has a red flag in their lives they are going to pick up on that no matter the context in which it was written.

And yeah, what KPB said.

Have tongue, will use it. Repeatedly.

Things can get taken out of context easily in the blogs. I hope the offended realize no offense was meant by the accused offender.

Great post.

bulging, you got me mate. I confess.

KPB2, I agree 100% and then some.

Daphne, you're right about the written word.

DT, I am offended by the accusation that I offended the accuser.

Tiller, yes, I am a tard. I got the football helmet and a cork on my fork to prove it.
