It feels good...Doesn't it

Over the past holiday season, I had a chance to help out a family in need. This woman had nothing to give to her children for Christmas. I stepped up and donated some things for her kids and also called in for some reinforcement. To make a long story short, I showed up at her house with the back of my van filled with presents for her kids. The look on her face was enough for me. I know that I had brought joy to people that thought they would have nothing for Christmas.

This made me feel so good to do something for someone less fortunate.

Have you ever done something charitable for others? And did you get the feeling like you had done something great?

I do help people in need, but I always try to do it anonymously. There is a certain embarassment for some people when receiving "charity." Recently a friend of mine fell on hard times and trying to help her without humilating her was difficult, but I was able to "rid my crawlspace" of leftover diapers and clothing (I had purchased these for her, but she will never know that). But when it comes to Christmas presents, the joy for the kids is just magical. There really is a Santa sometimes

Last fall while doing my 1st internship I got to help a family who had lost every thing they owned in a fire...I was able to give then close my boys couldnt wear any more that where still in great shape and other house hold items like dishes, glasses, silver ware...all stuff I had from when I left my ex and bought all new stuff to fill my new home...the feeling of apprication those people had towards me touched my heart and brought tears to my eyes...oh how we both benefited from such a terrible situation.

One of my favorite was volunteering at Springfield, MO's local quilt house. They make quilt panels for people who have AIDS and cancer mostly. It feels good to be contributing eventhough I didn't sew any but help to cut a lot of squares Then there was this one woman who's on probation and she volunteered there to cover her hours. She's a great lady despite her past and I always manage to make her smile and laugh. Other people look down on her

Where I worked our department would all go together and adopt a needy family and get them presents and all the food for there holiday meal.

It does feel good to help otheres.
