Same Old Songs

Just had a thought, and wanted to get it out before I forgot it...

Whenever I "meet someone new" I find myself listening to, humming, singing, enjoying the same songs. And these are the same songs from the previous person, and the one before that, and on and on. I find myself conflicted. Am I betraying all these previous girls... betraying their memories? The same songs can't have as much meaning as they once did... but I still enjoy them all the same. Also, I'm beginning to think this is indicitave of a pattern of behavior. Do the same songs necesarily yield the same results?

It's odd, I started writing this post in a happy mood, now find myself a little gloomy. Ah, well, at least I get a chance to share a favorite lyric of mine:

"The breeze is blowin' me a new perfume/ It's givin' my heart a little elbow room"

This is another oddity. LOL I went to see my brother who lives 3 and half hours away. I lined up all my cd cases before I left. I thought it would be fun to listen to some old favorites. I couldn't relate the songs to current situations. I just remember the song compared to the person in the past. That kind of made me sad too.

Wow -- THAT reminds ME of a road trip I made a few years ago. I brought along a lot of music, including an old mix tape I'd made when I was in college (the first time around). Every single song reminded me of a certain person, place, event... My feelings towards these things were *very* different at that point compared to when I made the tape... it was the cliched roller coaster of emotions. Happy, sad, remorseful, sentimental, prideful, embarrassed... eventually I just couldn't take it anymore and had to put something else in.

Because the best songs capture the human experience?
