Willkommen, bienvenue, welcome

I have been to the musical Cabaret this week (dutch try out version).

How appropiate the theme of this epos is when you consider the release of it in the 70’s and notice the conflicts in the world presently.

One mentioned here ‘never again’. That is, among other aspects, one of the messages build in this musical. The other is the simple song ‘Money makes the world go round…….’ People grasping where they can. Selling emergency food supplies for black market prices. Abusing his fathers name for getting discount at Mercedes and doing black market trading with Iraq (Kofi Annan’s sun).

Also the aspect of having people killed for their opinion, race or sex came back in especially the last scene. If you know that in the same countries where riots about some pencil scratches appeared, are the areas where gay people still are being hanged, then this Musical with the cloud of pink dust all over it (not only on stage but with the staff and public too, -I am not gay btw-) must be a torture for their thinkings.

Lucky we can have these kind of performances here in Holland. I enjoyed the setting, the music and the acting very much. In one word ‘Verrukkelijk’.
