Banded Gecko

Last night I needed some tortillas for dinner. My daughter and I went in town to get some. When we got home, I saw this lizard running toward the door steps. It was no typical Arizona lizard, so I thought. This lizard had black and yellow bands around it. At first glance I thought it was a baby Gila Monster (pronounced heela monster). After a short discussion with my son and his friends I realized that a gila monster has a thicker head.

I was determined to figure out what it was, because I know there are at least two species of poisonous lizards that run around the desert. One being the gila monster and the other being the Mexican beaded lizard. I certainly didn't want them running around my property. Both of them being endangered, I would have had it caught and relocated or called animal control had it been a poisonous type.

After some research on the internet, I was still unsure what it was. My boyfriend came by and I was talking to him about it. We told him where we saw it and he went to look after he had done some research online himself. His searches included one for sonora lizards. While he was outside, I clicked on one of the links from his search and found the attached pic.

He tossed a beetle down near the hole of where the lizard was and it came out and he recognized it as a banded gecko. At the same time I saw a picture from his search and realized that it was a harmless banded gecko.

It was kinda cute. That is the second time I have seen a gecko in like a week. The first was a regular gecko, and last night's was banded. Cool! They are a reptile and they freak me out, but I don't mind watching them.

Yes, the other one that I saw last week, was a pale pink in skin colour. They are so very interesting.

As a matter of a fact it did. It came to my door step. Unfortunately, for him, I pay less in car insurance with my current policy.
