Dancing Clowns

Two sentences shout us down
we lose and then are lost to them
alone we count number two
to be alone I don't have you

I doubt your taste in shoes has
turned the small wrinkles surrounding my lips any larger

You walk towards me singing
of coffee and croissants in the morning
I am sleeping
away from your clutches
and silent until six O'clock will drag me air-borne
to the kitchen to prepare food

There is a touch of dignity that condones your
right to do this
and shortly your felt tongue
will find the taste of carbon amongst newspapers
wasting your wisdom
as the sweat of your palms wastes me.
