Nude Beaches & locations in Australia

I will post reviews and directions to various nudist beaches and other spots here... please post your own views & reviews too!

There is something liberating about being nude outdoors... I simply love it.

Its a bit cold here in sunny Melbourne at the moment but I can't wait until the warmer months come again.

Sunnyside Beach Mt Elisa Victoria
This is Melbourne's only official nude beach, it is secluded and has lovely shallow water making it warmer than most especially later in summer. It is sheltered from the wind by the cliffs and the water is never choppy. The photo at the start of this blog was taken at Sunnyside at sunset.

Sunnyside is always busy on a warm weekend or during school holidays with a good mix of couples, guys and families. Most people go nude but there are always quite a few couples where one partner is nude and the other is in swimwear or topless so there is no pressure for those new to nudism. You do get the occassional guy out for a walk too but they never linger. During the week the visitors are mostly guys.

To get there you drive along the Nepean Hwy (away from Melbourne) and turn right into Sunnyside Rd just after the Institute for the Blind The 90km/h sign is another handy landmark.

Head toward the end of the road, if its a warm day the carpark will be full unless you are there early or are just lucky. Park beside the road, if you get a park in the last section after the sidestreet that is pretty good. DON'T park illegally you WILL get a fine.

Now walk towards the beach - the sand in front of the carpark is the textile (non nude) bit. Instead turn right where the road enters the carpark and follow the path along the beach to the next cove - thats the nude section. You can often walk along the beach including the short rocky section but at high tide you'll need to take the path along the cliff tops.

Its a good idea to bring drinks and a shade tent or brolly as there there is no natural shade or other facilities on the nude section. There is a basic toilet block in the carpark behind the textile beach.

Maslin Beach Adelaide South Australia
This is a lovely legal nude beach on the outskirts of Adelaide. The water is warm and calm, and its a huge section of sand some 3km long. Its so big that only half is nude, and you can't be seen by people in the textile section due to sheer distance. The facilities are excellent, there is a large clean building which provides showers and toilets half way along the wide stairs from the southern carpark. In the warmer months there is even a cart run by an older gentleman. He drives up and down the full length of the beach selling drinks and icecreams, lovely

Nude sunbathing and swimming is only permitted on the southern half of the 3km long beach. This is accessed via the wide concrete staircase which descends from the cliff top car park. For those who find stairs a challenge access is also available from the car park at the northern end of the beach however this requires a one and a half km walk along the sand to reach the nude section.

To get to Maslin Beach from Adelaide head south along Main South Road for approximately 45 km, through Morphett Vale, and then turn right into Sandpits Rd at the large road sign "Maslin Beach". This road will take you to the beachfront car park. To get to the cliff top car park you leave Main South Road at the same place but then take the next turn left and proceed south for another couple of kilometres before turning right into Tuit Road and proceeding past the caravan park to the cliff top car park.

As you travel south along Main South Road be careful not to veer left onto the Victor Harbour road at Noarlunga. If you do you will not find the Maslin Beach sign.
