Rockin' The C T

As you may have already read, the Connecticut Blogger’s Society gathered once again for a night of debauchery and borderline illegal activity. Casualties were held to the absolute minimum, but property damage has yet to be assessed.

Def Leppard Journey ‒ Mohegan Sun. ‘Nuff said.

Well, except for the other highlights of the night:

Mrs. Prag ‒ The concert-goer without a ticket.
Mr. Prag ‒ The ticket-holder without a concert
MWW ‒ Guinness record-holder of the casino-crutch/stadium-climb dash
NSA ‒ Creator of drinking games with absolutely NO discernible rules!
Champagne & Kaleidoscope ‒ Openly plotting the murder of a waitress by way of tortilla chips

I, of course, was the completely sane and normal one… again!

Doc ‒ Sleepy but happy!

Ah, Its you again, Your Angel Feathers and your Blood Stains...

Oh, and how is Journey without Steve Perry? Yeah, I know it's beeen a multitude of years since he was their lead singer, but I don't think they've put out any new recordings since then either. Ever curious, Mac

Hey Mac!!

I'm glad you asked. I was going to write a review of sorts, but I didn't want to sound like some high-collared critic. But...

Journey has released at least two albums since the late 90's and has a greatest hits offering in the works with some new stuff. They are now fronted by Steve Augeri, whose last name is pronounced "O'Jerry." Steve Perry/Steve O'Jerry... hmmmm. He has the looks and vocal styling of Perry, so as a live act, it's very close to the classic lineup. Also, the drummer - Deen Castronovo - was with Neil Schon in Bad English and has an amazing voice as well.

It was billed as a co-headlining show. And, while Journey certainly had equal time, they had a far inferior sound than Def Leppard. Not their fault - I'm guessing they were given opening band systems.

I was 13 - 15 years old when Escape and Frontiers came out. Those albums and Journey were as big as anything in the world of music at that time. You either loved them, or became sick of them. I was the former. I collected many of their earlier albums, such as Departure and Evolution. During the show, they played a wide-range of hits, but emphasized Escape and Frontiers. Missing were Open Arms and Send Her My Love. But, they played deeper cuts that had my nostalgia running wild. Stone in Love, Edge of the Blade, Escape, and Mother Father were highlights. But, aside from Don't Stop Believing and Faithfully, perhaps my favorite song of the night was Still They Ride. I haven't heard that in years. Beautiful song. They also did Wheel in the Sky, Any Way You Want It, Chain Reaction, and many more.

I enjoyed my first Journey show. Neil Schon was always the focal point for me - what an amazing musician he is. It brought back a lot of great memories and made me dig into the CD collection when I got home.

LOL, sane and normal or dazed and confused?? You seemed to be the only one having trouble with the rules to my drinking games buddy It was great fun though, that I'll admit!

docdirk replies on 7/2/2006 8:33 pm:
Admit it - you had no clue what games you were trying to make up. You were clueless. I, on the other hand, remained lucid and sober the entire time. Only I was able to see with clear eyes, and lemme tell you sumthin - your games were weak, lady... weak!!!!
