Would you travel?

A guy living on the other side of the state wants to meet me (totally unrelated to this site). So, since there are other friends i want to meet in the area, and one of my best friends moved there a few months ago, i said "sure, i'll drive over". But other friends have told me i should have stayed and made him come to ME. Which got me wondering, who should be the one to travel?

Should the man travel to meet the woman? It's safer for the woman that way, she's on her 'home turf.' it's also more 'chivalric' perhaps, and more romantic.

Or should the woman travel to meet the man? perhaps it's easier for her to get away, or she's independent and adventurous.

or, perhaps, meeting somewhere in the middle is an option?

Would it make a difference if the person you're travelling to meet offers to pay your expenses, or part of them? Or maybe it has more to do with which person has more 'free time'.

If you meet up with somebody from online that lives a distance away, how do you decide who travels? And what precautions do you take?

when/if i travel, i always leave my itinerary and contact info with family members, including contact info. for the people i'm planning to meet (the more detail the better). then i make sure to have contacts in the area i'm travelling to that are willing and able to help me if things go wrong. This is probably a 'bare minimum' list, so additional suggestions are good

Since you are going to visit other people on your trip, you've taken the best option. I always think about what else I could do if I have to travel, and never let myself rely on the one thing. I rarely have people travel to me these days, although I used to in the past.

In my humble opinion....Treat like any other trip..If you want to go to that destination...go on , go ahead. Plan somethings to do and plan to meet Mr.Right..Now if Mr Right turns out to be Mr. Wrong...you have other things to do and this trip need not be all about him...make it about YOU....

I usually do plan as many things into a trip (or even just meeting in town) as i can. Thanks to both of you for your input

well, i think he should be the one traveling. unless like you said, you might be in that area to make it easier to meet. or maybe a half way thing , somewhere you both can deside on that might be of interest to the both of you, but if you dont click then you have to have a second plan, to still enjoy yourself. but i would still make him come to you lol.

Come to you the first time. If you hit it off, meet him in the middle.

How much should I offer to defray the cost of your trip?

liquidluver: if you're patient, i'll end up in your neck of the woods eventually. my trip last weekend was postponed... but i'm hoping to arrange a trip over that direction in a couple months.

hmmm... though maybe i should whine and moan about the horribly high cost of gas, and say $1000 should help defray the costs... lol.

A man should be prepared to travel to meet wherever you wish ...
... without any more expectation than the privilage of your company.

I would were I but the time...

This was posted so long ago, I'm just browsing my old posts... but wow!! I never realized it, but your words actually became my "Meet up motto" lol. I have no problem traveling to them too, depending on circumstances, but otherwise it's the same.
