The Beautiful Strangers

The Beautiful Strangers

Ah the beautiful strangers
who held me for a night
and fell down in the darkness
on pillows soft and white.

Ah the beautiful strangers
all in the afternoon
who praised my flat little stomach
and came back to my room.

Ah the beautiful strangers
who spoiled me for a time
and taught me neon's just as nice
as afternoon sunshine.

This is a poem by Rod McKuen

It is possible for beautiful strangers to become beautiful friends! I know I'd like to spoil you...

This is a beautiful poem!! It says much about life in general, but especially about some of the lovers that I have had, but lost. Bitter-sweet. Remembering the sweet, but regreting that all things in this world it is only temporary.

Rod McKuen is my favorite poet of all time. I love his honest way of writing. And "The Beautiful Strangers" is right up there as one of his best, in my opinion. His "safe place to land" on the net is unbelievable. Check it out. And thank you, "little one" for sharing.

I am what I am today, as much for the beautiful strangers that came into my life, as for parents, siblings, friends, and teachers.....The stranger whose voice sparkled when we talked, and then told me I needed to get some help.......The stranger who said she would like to see me in my Speedo's........The beautiful stranger who kissed me on the lips, said that she loved me, and told me that we were so much alike, we would kill each other........The stranger who told me to "Suit up and show up".......The beautiful stranger who told me that I didn't "have a clue", who was clue less herself.........I need to make a list of all those beautiful strangers!!!

Rod said it in so few words......and it filled my head up, as if he had written a book on it.
