Dashers Random Movie pick

Recently re-released due the the creation of the Rockstar video game, The Warriors has returned on DVD with ass kicking vengance!
Concept/description as told on the website:

New York City. Home to over 7,000,000 people. They work and play by day. But when night comes, the street gangs take over the five boroughs, known simply as "The Armies of the Night"- One hundred thousand sworn rivals such as: The Furies, The Boppers, The Rogues, The High-Hats, The Lizzies, The Turnbull A.C.'s, and The Gramercy Riffs, just to name a few. But only one gang is perhaps the most toughest: The Warriors. Based from the outskirts of Coney Island and led by Swan (Michael Beck), they head up towards Pelham Bay Park in the Bronx for a special meeting/truce by Cyrus, the "Lord Byron of the City". It is then that a gang member shoots and kills Cyrus and falsely accuses The Warriors for it. Now the boys from Coney are on the run. Between them and safety stands over 20,000 NYPD cops and the enemies. With only one chance at escape and only one night to do it, The Warriors will do anything possible, if necessary, to get back home. Even if it means picking up a broad along the way. Tonight they are all out for THE WARRIORS.

This movie just plain old kicks ass!!! One of the great things about it is how it stands to the test of time. Filmed and taking place in a retro version of 1979, the action, acting, and plot are all way ahead of its time. Watching the special features on the remastered version, the director talks about how its based on an ancient greek story. A troupe of mercenaries from greece during the Persian wars are caught behind enemy lines. They are 1000s of miles away from home and know one thing, if they can reach the ocean they will make it. So begins their long journey through an unfamiliar country, surrounded and hounded by enemies at every turn.

This movie is a def must, and a great cult classic. So grab your pop corn freaky darlings, its a hell of a ride........or should I say run.

In the words of the Character Cyrus:

"Can you dig it Sucka's? I say can YOUUUUUU DIG IIIITTTTT??!!!!"

The Dude.

I'm so happy this is FINALLY on DVD. This has always been a favorite movie of mine. I remember the riots between rival gangs in cities across the country, right in the movie theater when this came out. The gangs found it that realistic.

This movie is a reminder of the days of old New York, where even in Manhattan at night, you actually did feel much safer if the Guardian Angels were around. When you couldn't walk in Central Park during the day without fear of crime. When riding the subway at 2 AM was unsafe. When cabbies refused to go to certain neighborhoods. When anyone could afford an apartment in Manhattan, if they were willing to lower their standard of living to a tenament in Hells Kitchen or Alphabet City. The days before Disney took over Times Square and made it family friendly. The days you could buy a dime back in Washington Square Park or anywhere along East 10th St. and it was only $10. NYC in 1979 really was this gritty.

Dude, "It was the Warriors! The Warriors did it!" Got the DVD back around Thanksgiving Dash & I watched it with my son, he fell in love with it, the same way I did when I saw it at his age... No special effects, just a high action, B movie classic that blew up faster than anyone thought it would. Did you know that they had to remove this flick from the theaters back in the 70's due to the gangs representing in huge volumes? If you notice the final scene, they show none of the logos of the gangs because they were afraid that the real gangs on Coney Island would strike, that's why they filmed that scene @ 6 am....
