A Recipe for LOVE......The way to a man's heart...

Hi there,thanks for dropping in.

I one of my recent Threads,i mentioned that Shepard's Pie is my favorite meal.

I just LOVE it with fresh bread, with lots of butter so it melts into it....mmmmmmmmm...YUMMY!!

A couple of my friends asked me for the recipe,& how it's cooked,so as promised, here it is.

Minced Beef

Mashed Potatoes

Beef stock, or Gravy.

Pastry Topping

Loosely fry the Mince until it's a pink colour,OR lightly brown, whichever is your preference.DON'T overcook.

Boil the Potatoes,& mash them.Depending on your preferences, mash them as is,OR use a little butter to soften them.

Chop the Onions to a medium size,OR finely again, whatever your preference.

Prepare your Beef stock or Gravy.

Using a deep Pyrex dish or Casserole dish put some of the potatoes into the bottom of the dish.

Next, add some of the onions, then the minced beef, then the rest of the onions.Pour some of the Gravy over all of this, then add the rest of the potatoes, followed by the rest of the Gravy all over the top of the pie.Pack it all tightly,& rake with a fork for presentation.

Place into a pre-heated oven at gas-mark 6 for a half hour,then gas mark 4 for a further 15/30 mins.

Your Pie should now be cooked to perfection & ready to eat.Best eaten with fresh bread covered in butter, for maximum effect...YUMMY!!

Variations on this recipe include peas & carrots which can be put in the bottom of the pie on top of the first layer of potatoes instead of the onions.

Other people ALSO include a topping of pastry to complete the pie, which gives it a crunchy feel to the meal.

Try it out & see if you like it as much as i do.I'm sure that you will..lol..

"Always remember...keep smiling!"

I'll give it a try...sounds like a gourmet 'pot pie' type of thing. I'll let you know what I think...but it already sounds fantastic!

Oh, btw, I sorta, kinda, well 'pimped' your club again on a post!

Sounds fairly similar to mine, although I flip the mashed potatoes to the top, and add cheese. I fry the meat with some flour and then add Worcestershire sauce to thicken into a gravy, and I mix the meat and the peas, carrots & onions together to form the bottom layer.

Oddly enough, it's one of the few dishes my kids request.

Hey...I actually have all the ingerdients...I think I'll make it for dinner tonight!!!

Thanks, Daighi....this was very interesting to read & compare. It's cool to get the "authentic" reciipe from the other side of the ocean...no idea what gas mark 6 and gas mark 4 are, but I can guess as to the heating temperatures.

Hopefully one day we can share a piece of the....ahem....pie....

Made right, Cottage Pie can be fantabulous, but made badly, it is just bad. My friend cannot cook to save her life, and one of the worst things she makes is bad cottage pie.
