four weddings and a funeral

I just watched this movie again recently. There is a scene from this movie, the scene revolving around the funeral.. that stays with me for a long time, each time I see the movie. The one guy realizes how much he loves the man that has just passed and he gives this empassioned speech..which I have since found out was a poem. I know the poem talks about someone that has died... but to be able to have someone speak about you with such passion.. Here is the poem..

""Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,
Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,
Silence the pianos and with muffled drum
Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.

Let aeroplanes circle moaning overhead
Scribbling on the sky the message He is Dead.
Put crepe bows round the white necks of the public doves,
Let the traffic policemen wear black cotton gloves.

He was my North, my South, my East and West,
My working week and my Sunday rest,
My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song;
I thought that love would last forever: I was wrong.

The stars are not wanted now; put out every one,
Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun,
Pour away the ocean and sweep up the woods;
For nothing now can ever come to any good.

-- W.H. Auden

For some reason the emotion in this poem really cut into my soul... is there anyone in your life that feels this way about you? Do you feel this way about anyone else?

Great movie and an awesome poem. Is there anyone I know that I feel that way about? answer is simple, Yes. Is there anyone out there that feels that way about me? I'd have to say NO, I don't think so, although once upon a time I thought he did. Now I'm going to have to watch that movie again tonight, my daughter is a huge Hugh Grant fan so I own a copy of the movie.

I'd like to think that there is someone who feels like that about me... because I feel that way about a lot of my Special Friends here!

All you have to do is ask...and I'll dramatically quote this poem at your funeral ( ask and pay a small fee..to be paid in full asap )

_____I don't feel that way about anyone and I hope no one feels that way about me. When I read that poem I hear the author say "The pain is unbearable. It hurts so much. I want my world to end. I just want to die." I don't EVEr want my death to cause another person that much pain and I don't want someone else's death to make me feel that way. Life is hard enough as it is. What love it must have been when alive!

the last sentence of your comment I think , is the reason for the poem.. a tribute to the love they shared while alive together

The poem is quite simply awesome. I have heard it read at a funeral and it is heart wrenching. John Hannas performance of it was fantastic and it was one of the best moments of the film.

As a footnote the best man at the wedding before it is a good aquaintance of mine and played in my charity cricket team, Struan Roger, and he does an equally great reading of it. I strive to be as good.

Take care xxx
